A Unique Color

Kora's mind raced. What could she have possibly done wrong? Master Windu had trained her a few times but had always been indifferent.

"Good morning, Master," Kora said, trying to mask her apprehension.

"Good morning, Kora. Walk with me," Windu replied before turning on his heel.

Kora glanced at Obi, who merely shrugged.

"Are you coming, young one?" Windu's stern tone snapped her back to attention.

"Oh, yes. Sorry, Master," she stammered, hurrying to catch up.

"I hear you've retrieved your kyber crystal," he said as they began walking.

"Yes, Master," she replied with a nod.

"As you may know, I too wield a purple saber. It's quite a rare color."

Kora's heart sank. She had forgotten that his crystal was also purple. Maybe he's upset that I have the same color, she worried.

"I'm glad it's you, Kora, who shares this unique color with me," he finished.

Kora froze in her tracks. "Really?"

Windu chuckled softly. "Why do you sound so surprised?" He turned to look at her.

"To be honest, Master, I didn't think you liked me," she admitted, twirling a strand of hair around her finger.

"Why would you ever think such a thing Kora, can't you see how pleased I am?" He said with his normal seriousness.

"Not really." Kora giggled

"Hmm. Perhaps I need to work on my expressions," Windu said with a rare laugh. "Now, let me see your saber."

Kora eagerly grabbed her saber and ignited it. A deep, wine-colored purple illuminated the corridor.

"That is a striking color," Windu remarked, pulling out his own saber and igniting it.

His blade glowed a much lighter lilac compared to Kora's deeper hue.

"They complement each other nicely," a new voice observed.

They turned to see Master Shaak Ti approaching.

"Yes, I think so, Master," Kora said shyly, powering off her saber as the three began walking together.

Kora hadn't spent much time with Shaak Ti but knew her from occasional lessons with Master Yoda. Unlike some higher-ranking Jedi who barely acknowledged younglings, Shaak Ti always took the time to ask about Kora's training and offer kind words.

As the masters discussed topics like politics and meditation, Kora kept her gaze on the floor, trying not to let her boredom show. Eventually, they reached the cafeteria, where Obi-Wan waited to retrieve her.

He bowed politely to the masters as Kora said her goodbyes.

"Thank you for your time, Kora. I hope we'll train together soon," Windu said.

"Yes, Master. I'd like that," Kora replied before joining Obi.

"What was that about?" Obi asked as they headed to the food line.

"Master Windu wanted to see my lightsaber," Kora said with a shrug.

"Awkward. He doesn't strike me as the chatty type," Obi chuckled.

"It wasn't too bad. He even said he didn't hate me," Kora said with a smirk.

"Wow. I didn't think he liked anyone," Obi teased.

The pair got their food and talked excitedly about their lightsabers, their upcoming training, and their dreams of becoming Padawans. After finishing their meals, they walked in companionable silence back to their dorms.

As they reached the entrance, Obi stopped. "Are you going to be okay tonight?"

Kora faltered, the memory of last night's nightmare crashing back into her mind. The day's distractions had pushed it away, but now it hit her with full force.

"I hope so. Maybe I'm so tired I'll just pass out without dreaming," she said, mostly to convince herself.

"Well, if not, I'm right next door. Just come get me," Obi said.

"Sure, let me just stroll into the boys' dorm in the middle of the night," Kora shot back, her voice laced with sarcasm.

"Good point," Obi replied with a sheepish smile.

"I'll be fine. And if anything happens, I'll tell you in the morning," Kora said firmly.

"Alright. Goodnight, Knight," Obi teased with a smirk.

Kora groaned. "That's so dumb. You need to think of something else immediately."

"Goodnight, Knight," Obi repeated, ignoring her protests.

Rolling her eyes, Kora opened the door to the girls' dorm. "Goodnight, Obi."

Hello there!
This chapter is incredibly boring and nothing but dialogue but I had no idea where 14 year old me was planning to go after the last chapter 😭

The next chapter will probably be a time jump to them becoming padawans so hopefully thats more exciting!
