There was no doubt that those past few days had taken its toll on River — mentally and physically. She didn't know how much more she could handle, before she would break.Needing to talk to someone who weren't involved in all this Pike and Kane drama, River went to Raven. She'd found her in the middle of scrambling some machine parts together, or that's at least what it looked like to River.
It didn't take long for River to notice a slight difference in her. She seemed happier. At peace, almost. At first, River decided to not ask her about it, but that lasted until she saw her walking. The limp that Raven had once had, had disappeared as she walked carefree through Mechanical. River couldn't contain herself from asking her about it. The answer she got, was definitely not one she'd expected nor heard before.
In rough parts, Raven had explained how Jaha had come to her with a pill and told her that her pain and suffering would go away from one moment to the other, if she took it. The key, as he'd called the pill. Raven recalled how she'd been skeptical about it for a while, but eventually gave in. And sure enough, her pain disappeared.
River was speechless, literally. She was claiming that a pill could take away pain? It sounded like complete nonsense in her ears. So, when Raven offered to help her talk to Jaha about the pill, she'd politely declined. Though in reality, she couldn't get away fast enough.
All in all, when River left Mechanical, she felt as lost as she had been when she entered. Even more so now.
So, you could imagine how she'd felt when she got the news of what happened at the Grounder village that Pike and his followers attacked two days before. From what Kane knew, Octavia had been able to warn the village in time. But that resulted in — as predicted — that the Grounders resisted and swiftly made a plan. A poisonous fog once lit with fire, that was the trap. Pike and his people had arrived, only to find the village abandoned, and before any of them could react, the Grounders struck. The trap cost the life of Zoe Monroe.
River was devastated when she heard of her death. One more of the hundred, gone. River couldn't explain it, but she felt a strange need to protect the ones from the hundred. They'd been send to the ground to die, and against all odds, they survived. Together. And now, after Grounders and Mount Weather, the numbers of the hundred were thinning.
River had gone out to get some fresh air and to clear her mind. Her plan was ruined, when she heard the sound of the gate opening and found Bellamy in the front. She slowly approached the gate as she swallowed in fear and made sure to keep a long distance, but still close enough for her to see what was going on.
Two Grounders on horses sat outside Arkadia as Bellamy trudged out to them with a glare.
"Talk," Bellamy demanded, coldly.
"We seek the one you call Pike," said one of the Grounders.
Bellamy shifted slightly in place. "Why?"
