AS RIVER SAT in lock-up, the back of her head leaned against the hard metal wall, she mostly thought about one thing.

Ash.

The regrettably impulsive kiss swarmed her mind whole. She loved Ash, no doubt about that. But he wasn't Bellamy. The feeling she'd felt when they shared the kiss, hadn't been close to the feeling she got when it was with Bellamy. She hated herself for doing it, but there was no turning back from her mistakes. It was done, and now she had to live with the consequences of her actions.

She was well aware that she had to tell Bellamy. As much as it would hurt to do. He deserved to know.

The endless night of rumbling thoughts had been turned to day. And still, here River sat, in the exact same spot she'd been in the past 24 hours. Kane had approached her a couple times, to just sit with her for a little while. They didn't talk, but no words were needed; they knew they just needed each other's presence. The gentle touch of a hand on hers was enough for River to relax and feel a little bit more secure. In this extremely unsecure setting.

Everyone around her knew what was waiting on them. The dreadful morning came, and the day of Kane, Lincoln, and Sinclair's execution was upon them.

"It could have worked." Lincoln's voice sounded suddenly. Instead of turning her head, River simply leaned back and listened to their conversation, curiously.

Kane's voice echoed. "Death can a an act of unity too. We don't break. We don't show fear. The people will remember."

River sensed a sting in her gut at his words. It suddenly seemed way too realistic. This was actually happening; Kane was actually going to die. She didn't know if her mind had brushed away the reality of the situation for her own safety or not. But one thing was for sure, she couldn't loose another father.

"Chancellor on deck," A guard announced.

Followed by Pike's voice. "It's time."

Almost immediately, the Grounder prisoners grew unsure of the situation and started to scatter around the cell. Lincoln was quickly there to calm them down as he mumbled, "They're here to take me away. You must not resist."
