Later that night, the hospital staff had taken the whole family to an empty room where they all huddled together, tired and exhausted to spend the night.
Her mother and father slept on the lower bed, while she and her siblings lay on the higher bed.
Amara rolled about in bed, the time on the clock was one thirty two a.m, she was finding it hard to sleep, her mind was filled, she couldn’t just shake off the suffocating feeling that her life was being taken away from her right in front of her eyes.
She knew it wasn’t her father’s fault, but still…
Marriage? At her age? It was simply unthinkable.
Tears slowly filled the corners of her eyes. What about her college life, her friends? The life she had planned to live when she was through with college.
She had planned to move to the u.s from Germany permanently, she would only be coming back occasionally to check on her family. She wanted to be a travel agent, traveling the world, and experiencing everything.
But now everything felt like it would never happen.
Was her life over? she wondered.
Would she never experience what it felt like to graduate, start her career, travel around the world, meet different people, and have a boyfriend?
Different questions filled up her head, tormenting her.
She looked down at her parents who were sleeping soundly.
How could they sleep when they were marrying her off in three days?
She knew her father was doing the best thing he could think of, he couldn’t just stand by and let the other wolf packs harm the family, and if marrying a total stranger would keep her sisters and family safe, she would do it, but she just couldn’t bring herself to do it.She looked at her father again, couldn't he see? This marriage wasn’t something she was prepared for.
Just a few days ago, they had all been at a restaurant, enjoying their Friday night, who would have thought that a few days later, they would lose everything and she would have to marry a total stranger to ensure their lives.
Amara turned uncomfortable in bed.
She couldn’t sleep.
Why did she agree? she thought to herself, her heart felt heavy.
She wanted to say no! She wanted to run away! Run back to school and never come back again.
She looked over at her father.
If she woke him up to tell him that she couldn’t do it any longer, it would break his heart.
Tears filled up in Amara’s eyes..
What about her mother? Did she really want this kind of life for her?
Amara stared at the hospital ceiling in silence, her eyes on the fan as it rolled slowly, the fan creaked.
The room the hospital had given them was quite old, but it would have been better than just anywhere.
She looked over at her little sisters sleeping soundly beside her.
They had no idea of anything going on.
Earlier that evening when the hospital had brought pasta for them for dinner, she had given them her meatballs because she didn’t have any appetite, and they were so shocked.
She smiled to herself as she thought of them, but her smile faded as she remembered her predicament.
She couldn’t let her life just turn out like that, finding out she was a half human and half wolf had been hard enough, it had taken her months before she could continue to live her life normally, and now her life wanted to change its course again.
She couldn’t just sit by and do nothing.
She had to find a way out.
She would convince Maxwell Branson, or Maximus, or someone.
This couldn't be the end of her life.
Not yet.
Not like this.Thinking of Maximus Branson made her sit up.
She wondered what he looked like. She wondered what he was like.
Since her dad and his dad knew each other since they were younger then he was surely a wolf like her, she wondered if he was older, or younger, or maybe he was even her age mate?
She silently slipped out of bed, careful enough not to disturb her parents, she walked towards where they kept their bags and she quietly zipped hers open and reached for her phone.
She hadn’t used her phone in days, she was sure she would have missed a hundred texts from her friends in school.
As she opened her phone.
Instagram was still open from the last time she used the app, which was on Friday, the day her father collapsed.
She relaxed back on the wall, as she typed "Maximus Branson." into the search bar.
The search bar loaded up immediately and profile appeared, Amara's heart began to bea a little faster as she tapped on the profile, her eyes immediately went wide.
Maximus Branson was breathtakingly handsome. He had the darkest and most beautiful hair she had ever seen, his hair rested on his shoulders, his eyes were the kind of blue that made anyone feel anxious, his jawline looked like it was specially designed for him, she couldn’t even describe him as handsome, he was beautiful.
She looked through his profile, he had a few thousand followers.
From the way he dressed, she could tell he was also rich, all his clothes were from designers that she had only seen her father and his friends were.
Every picture Amara saw of him made her gasp.
He was perfect, she had never called any man hot before, but this man was hot, he was almost...beautiful.
For the first time since everything had happened to her family, she found herself smiling more and more as she went through his photos.
All his photos were of him alone, except from a few with another guy. The other guy was blond haired, with a full beard, she could tell they were probably best friends.
Amara smiled as she zoomed in on Maximus' face.
Maybe, just maybe, marrying Maximus wouldn't be as terrible as she had thought.
She had imagined him to be some six foot, hairy bearded animal like monster of a man, considering the fact that he was a full wolf unlike her, and he grew up in the pack surrounded by blood shed.
But staring at Maximus, he looked even more sophisticated than she herself.
He didn’t look weak, but he also didn’t look scary, like she had thought.
Amara found herself smiling, as she continued to scroll through Maximus's photos.
She saw snapshots of him traveling, hiking, and laughing with his friend.
She even began to go through his followers list, a few celebrities followed him, and a lot of beautiful influencer girls followed him.
Amara felt a little jealous, all the girls looked like models, she smiled to herself at the thought that they weren’t yet married yet she was already getting jealous.
Just then her phone suddenly died, bringing her back to her reality.
Amara groaned lazily as she slowly stood up and plugged it into the hospital's socket.
She walked back to her bed, quietly climbing up so she wouldn’t wake her parents up.
Amara settled into bed, smiling to herself as she saw Maximus’s face.
His face was still on her mind.
Maybe, just maybe this arranged marriage wouldn't be half bad as she thought it would be.
Maybe, just maybe she would be happy.
Amara closed her eyes to sleep, while imagining being kissed by him.
