Meanwhile…It was night, a calm night.
Amara had eaten the food Lara brought for her and she had slept off.
Just then she violently woke up to the sound of loud screams of people shouting and wolves howling.
She could hear multiple footsteps running past her door like hundreds of people were running, she slowly got up from her bed and rushed outside.
The moon was bright outside, Hundreds of people were running helter skelter, shouting and wailing.
It was complete chaos.
She slowly stopped out of her house, looking around confused as she followed the people running.
She followed them as they ran to the Branson palace square, as they neared the Branson palace square, the crying increased.
She could see hundreds of injured and dead werewolves, they all lay scattered all over the floor, their bodies badly damaged and bloody.
She looked around, she could see the wives and children of the werewolves wailing loudly while holding on to their dead loved ones.
The air smelt of blood and sorrow.
Amara looked frightened, her eyes wide with fear as she watched more bodies arrive at the Branson palace square, more of the people falling to their knees and crying as they recognized a loved one.
"What happened?" she asked one of the women beside her, who was crying.
The woman looked up at her, her eyes were red like she had been crying.
"The Red Sky Wolves… there was a clash between those beasts and our pack warriors," she replied, her voice shaky.
"We don’t know what exactly happened, all we know is most of the warriors we sent are dead, my brother was among.. and I still have not seen him.” The woman said.
Amara felt her heart sink.
Ever since she came here, she had been hearing about the Red Sky Wolves, they were the reason her father had gladly accepted the marriage, and now she was looking at what they were capable of doing.
Just then she saw Lara and a group of the other maids attending to a few of the injured wolves.
She rushed to meet Lara.
“What is happening?” she asked.
Lara looked up at her.
“I’m among the people attending to the injured, we are short of people… we need more people to help.”
Amara nodded.
“I know a lot.. I can help.” She said,
Lara quickly pointed towards a small corner.
“Let’s go, that’s where we take them.”
Amara followed Lara.
The place was filled with injured werewolves, some of them rolling and groaning in pain, while some others were unconscious.
A few of them were still able to move, they all looked shaken and exhausted.
"We.. we lost nearly two dozen wolves..." one of the men said, he looked traumatized.
“My brother..: was one of them.” He said.
Another man looked at him.
"Those bastards...not a single Red Sky Wolf was injured...it’s like those bastards are not normal.” He said.
Amara looked at the men, the fear in their voice made her even more terrified.
How bad could these red sky wolves be that even her father had been so terrified of them.
Just then, she looked up to see Madam Felicia walking up to her, her face filled with worry.
"Amara dear, you are here.. I haven’t seen you in a week... that’s good. We need every hand on deck.” She said,
She pointed to a group of unconscious men at the end of the room.
“Attend to those men, clean their wounds and bandage them to stop the bleeding.” She said,
Amara nodded, taking a deep breath.
She rushed to attend to them.
She worked tirelessly all night, she was so exhausted.
Just then, she staggered backwards while throwing away the eightieth batch of bloody water.
Madam Felicia immediately caught her, holding her well.
"You can try to rest for a while.. you have tried," she said softly, pointing towards a bed at the end of the room.
Amara shook her head, she couldn’t sleep, especially not now.
Just then, more bodies were brought in.
Amara looked around, there were too many injured wolves, they were out of resources.
She looked over at Madam Felicia's face, she could see the look of sadness in the woman’s face.
The woman sighed.
“This is like back in the days of war again.. so much loss.” She muttered.
"How many more?" Amara asked.
Madam Felicia looked up at her.
"We don't know," she replied, her voice filled with worry.
"This is the first full on clash we have had with Red Sky Wolves.” She said,
Amara felt her heart sink.
More wounded werewolves were rushed in, their bodies were all badly damaged and bruised.
Amara rushed to help them, her hands shaking as she tied their wounds.
A young woman, a little bit older than her, grabbed her hand.
"Please," she whispered, her eyes filled with tears . "My husband... my husband is gone." She cried.
Amara tried to comfort the woman, but she couldn’t, the woman was crying uncontrollably as she looked all around for her husband.
The cries, the screams, the anguish – it was a never-ending tide of sorrow.
Hours passed and many of the wounded werewolves still needed help, Amara sank to the floor, she was tired, her hands were aching her.
It was as if once they were through with a batch of wounded werewolves, another batch would come.
Just as she was resting, more bodies arrived.
Amara watched as more women and children fell to their knees crying.
She tiredly rushed to attend to the new batch of wounded wolves.
She could hear a few of the conscious ones whispering.
"Grayson Grey... he's a devil," one of the injured men whispered, his eyes filled with fear.
Amara chuckled to herself at the name. Grayson Grey, it sounded like it belonged to some quiet nice guy but yet he was the Red Sky wolves alpha.
And he was also responsible for everything happening, including the fact that she had to marry Maximus.
"That bastard, he’s basically unstoppable," she heard one of the men whisper in fear.
"He’s like ten wolves in one." The man said, still shaking in fear.
“He claims lord Branson and James Becker took his pack’s lands a few decades ago and now he wants our lands," one of the wounded warriors added. “And he will stop at nothing until he takes everything."
Amara slowly shook her head while wrapping the man’s wounded hand.
She was the Luna of course, she had to give her people hope.
"We won't let that happen," she said, trying to sound confident.
The man looked up at her, he shook his head laughing.
"You don't understand," he whispered. "That Grayson is not just any alpha. He's the devil himself."
A few others nodded in agreement.
"He has been planning this for years," the man continued.
"He has an army of rogue wolves at his command," another added.
“Those wolves are all prepared… we don’t stand a chance against them.”
Just then, Lord Maxwell Branson stormed into the little room where they were treating the injured.
He looked around in anger until he spotted madam Felicia and walked up to her.
"How could you let this happen?" He snarled, his voice filled with anger.
Felicia looked up at him.
"They were attacked without warning," she replied. "And now we are doing everything we can."
Maxwell's face squeezed in anger.
"Doing everything you can?" he repeated, his voice getting angrier. "My men are dead, Felicia. Not yours."
He immediately punched the wall in anger.
"If only our pack were united, maybe we would have had a chance," he shouted angrily.
"But no, you and the stupid loyal wolves under you insist on playing stupid games."
Felicia's eyes turned angry.
"How dare you," she growled.
Everyone had begun to watch as the two of them stood, facing each other in anger.
In a blink of an eye, Amara watched in horror as Maxwell and Felicia immediately transformed, their bodies changing into their wolf forms.
The sound of bones breaking filled the air, as the two large wolves stood in front of each other, ready to tear each other apart.
In a blink of an eye, they both transformed back to their human form.
“I only changed back because I don’t want these people to see me killing an old woman like you.” Maxwell said, his voice rough.
“Next time I won’t be so nice.”
Madam Felicia chuckled.
“There won’t be a next time.” She said,
Maxwell turned to leave.
"The wedding," Maxwell said, his voice cold. "It can’t happen in a week's time anymore, a week is too far.. It is now happening tomorrow." He said.
Felicia immediately shouted no.
"That's impossible," she said. "The preparations alone—"
"Those things are irrelevant ," Maxwell said, interrupting her.
"We need this alliance now more than ever." He added.
Amara watched the two of them argue.
Her heart sank.
Tomorrow? Tomorrow?
"But... but it's too soon," she stammered.
Maxwell looked over at her.
"We can't afford to wait," he said. "The Red Sky wolves won't give us the luxury of time.” He said.
Madam shook her head and placed her hand on Amara’s shoulder, sighing in defeat.
"Very well," she said. "We will prepare for the wedding to happen tomorrow.” She said,
She looked over at Amara, whose face had become pale.
“How do you feel honey, are you ready to get married tomorrow?”
