Overseer

I woke up, somewhere entirely different. The hot air of battle faded into a cool breeze. The sun was out and gently touching the grass that swayed in the wind.

I knew I was dead.

This place... It's so peaceful. Even with the horrors going down below. The ones that killed me and sent me here. A part of me wanted to rest here. The aches of old age have finally disappeared. It's. It's an odd feeling. Knowing the pain in my chest I felt moments ago.

"Overseer?" My eyes turned to the Guardian. I smiled at him.

"Yes... It's good to see you again Guardian." I can't fight this fate, so it's better to accept it. I have been alive for longer than any Steve has.

"Why... You have passed on." He walks over to me and offers me his hand. I took his hand like I have many times before.

"I have... Demon Steve. He is attacking everyone." I explain to him.

"Have you won against him?" The Guardian questions softly as he starts to walk me through the spirit realm. Past the felid, I appeared in.

"No... They got everyone else. They trapped them in the Galaxy's realm. They are all worn down though. I don't know how they will get through him. Even if he is fighting all on his own." I say honestly.

"I see... I wish them luck." He guides me in front of a large lake. He sits down in front of it, I take a seat next to him.

"You should help them. They need someone who can seal the ones away. To get him from ever coming back to the Overworld again." I remind him.

"I need to protect the Spirit Realm. The souls who live in it. If I leave they could all be... I do not want to think about the kind of things that would happen to them." He sighs looking down at the lake's water.

"But he will come here. It's only a matter of time." I run my hand under the cool water of the crystal-clear lake.

"Not if they win." He looks up to the sky, his good threatening to fall back from his head.

"And you can make sure they win. They need you, Guardian." I tightened my grip on his hand. He sighs shaking his head.

"I am not a fighter. I... I am a protector. A guardian for the souls of the dead."

"And right now they are dying down there. Souls that are not ready to pass on. Even the ones who already died." As I trace my hand an image appears on the lake's water, one of another. Alex and Galaxy supported each other their eyes wide with shock as they... watched something.

The Guardian looks down at the vision in the off-lake. He lets go of my hand and stands. He turns his back away from me and walks.

"The lake will let you see everything Overseer. I will finish your welcome in this realm... after. I promise." He disappears. Leaving me to view this lake alone for a while longer.

At least I know he is going to do the right thing.

. . .

Sabre

"I'd like my code back. Demon Steve." Pain courses through my body. I still managed to keep my hand steady as my green blade gently touched his neck.

"Ah, Code Jumper. We already made a deal. You gave this to me for Time's life after all." He scoffs, turning around to face me.

"Sabre?..." I heard Alex call out. I looked over to her. She was standing next to Galaxy.

"S...Sabre!" Rainbow calls out tears running down his face as he looks up at me.
