The moon hung heavy in the night sky, casting its pale glow over the quiet streets. Alex couldn't sleep. It had been a month since the embarrassing incident with Lily, and yet, every time he closed his eyes, the memory replayed in vivid detail. The shame, the confusion, and Lily's livid reaction haunted him.

Unable to lie still any longer, Alex decided to take a stroll, hoping the cool night air would calm his restless mind. His paws shuffled against the cobblestone streets as thoughts of Andrea, Elton and Siril gnawed at his heart. How had he fallen so far from where he belonged?

Turning a corner, Alex froze. Just ahead, a familiar figure walked down the path. It was Lily. Her usual vibrant demeanor seemed dimmed as she rubbed her eyes, clearly tired from a long day.

Before he could stop himself, Alex hurried toward her.

"Lily, wait!" he called, his voice nervous but sincere.

Lily whipped around, her crimson eyes narrowing as she instinctively prepared a Slash attack.

"What the bloody hell do you want?" she snapped. "Here to snog me again? Or are you stalking me now, you daft git?"

Alex flinched at her words, raising his paws in surrender. "I-I'm not stalking you! I swear! Just... please, hear me out. I wanted to apologize."

Her claws stayed raised, her posture tense. "Apologize? You think a measly 'sorry' is going to fix the fact you humiliated me in public?"

Alex sighed, his voice trembling. "I know it won't. I get it. But I've been losing sleep over this. I feel awful, Lily. Please, just let me explain."

Lily hesitated, her claws lowering just slightly. "You've got one minute," she muttered, her tone sharp.

Alex took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. "I'm sorry for what I did, Lily. I confused you for someone else-someone who means everything to me. Andrea Vexus... she's the love of my life. When I saw you, I wasn't thinking. I acted on pure emotion. It was wrong, and I regret it deeply."

Lily's expression remained guarded, her tail flicking behind her. "And I'm supposed to believe that? Do you know how many blokes use the 'I was thinking about someone else' excuse?"

Alex's ears flattened, his voice growing quieter. "I can't force you to believe me, but... maybe you know what it's like to lose someone you love. To be pulled away from the place where you feel you belong. Back in Siril, I didn't have to argue about what cookies are called or feel like I didn't fit in. Everything made sense there. And Andrea... she was my world."

He swallowed hard, his gaze dropping to the ground. "Now I'm here, in a place where I'm a stranger, and I've made things worse by hurting someone else. That's not who I want to be."

Lily's sharp words caught in her throat. For the first time, she saw something other than embarrassment or desperation in Alex's eyes-she saw pain.

Alex took a step back, his shoulders slumping. "I just needed to get this off my chest. If you can't forgive me, I understand. I won't bother you again. Good night, Lily. I hope... I hope we never cross paths again, as you said before."

Without another word, Alex turned and walked away, his figure growing smaller in the dim light.

Lily stood there, watching him go, her chest tightening. She remembered the serenade he'd given her-those heartfelt words that, despite her anger, had struck a chord deep within her. She sighed, her claws retracting as guilt gnawed at her.

"Bloody hell," she muttered to herself, glancing back at where Alex had disappeared.

Over the next few days, Alex's demeanor got worse. He moved through life like a machine, following the same repetitive routine: wake up, eat, go to work, return home, eat again, shower, and rest. There was no spark, no life in his actions-just a sense of obligation to keep going.
