' where did i go wrong?

i lost a friend

somewhere along in the bitterness

and i should have stayed up,

with you all night.

had i known, how to save a life,' - the fray

(dedicated to LittleFighter97 , because her books are frickin amazing and just a little encouragement/ reminder that i'm TOTES not giving up on her and her books. ily)

-

you're 6 ft.

i'm 5 ft six.

you always joke about our heights,

saying that you were happy because

you were tall enough

to protect me from the dangers and horrors of the world.

you were strong enough

to put me under your wing.

and now that i'm a thousand miles away from your arms,

you wish that you could still shield me.

but i'm on my own now

away from your comfort and your safety

and i have to deal with it.

i remind myself that i'm strong enough.

i remind myself that i am a warrior, who doesn't need anybody to protect her

who can fight through rainstorms on her own.

i

am

strong

enough.

my thoughts were interrupted by the bell.

i get up hastily and open the door.

-

nick and i were done editing our short story assignment in the comfort of my dorm room,

we now sit on the couch watching game of thrones, a popcorn bowl between us.

suddenly, nick paused the show and turned to me.

'what is it?' i ask him, munching on my popcorn.

'i've been.. wanting to ask you some things lately, um... since i met you seven weeks ago.'

'okay, then what is it?' i say with a smile,

thinking it was about something stupid, like

do unicorns have horns?

this was always something he would do,

ask me something stupid with a serious face, then burst out laughing.

he turned to me and said,

'um.. do you have a boyfriend?'

oh boy, i was so wrong.

'nick. you're kidding me, right?'

'no,' he says my name in a way that makes me feel warm on the insides,

'i'm serious. i have been crushing on you since forever.

before i met you, i've never laid eyes

on such a beautiful girl like you.

then, when i saw you,

i had a feeling in the bottom of my stomach.

something was saying 'this is it. this is the girl you're destined for',

and when we worked on our first project together, and started becoming friends,

i had never been so happy before.

you make me happy,' he says, spilling out all his words that has been choked up

in him since he met me.

eyes flaring in desperation, he gulped, as he looked at me for my answer.

tears are taking up my vision.

i don't want to lose this magical friendship.

so, i say

'nick, i'm so so sorry.

please don't let my answer affect you.

please don't let my answer affect our friendship,'

knowing my obvious answer,

he nodded, with rejection forming a lump in his throat.

'nick, i'm so sorry,' i say desperately, tugging his arm,

he says my name in the same tender way,

'of course. its fine. being best friends with you is good enough already for me.'

before he exits my room,

he leans down and kisses me on the lips gently.

i sit there, dumbstruck.

' i'm really sorry, i just had to do it once. i-i- couldn't help myself. see you around,'

and with that, he gets his laptop

and goes out of my room.

-

oh shit

ouch. rejection.

team nick or team boyfriend?

this was a bit longer than most of my chapters, but REJECTION.
