Summary: a grumpy omega, a sunshine of an Alpha and an unexpected pup.

Fourth, his tie loosened and his shoulders slumped, trailed behind his brother, Pond, through the crowded ballroom. The event, some tedious legal gala, was the last place he wanted to be after a brutal week of depositions.

“P'Pond, are you sure about this? I could really use some sleep,” Fourth grumbled, adjusting his glasses.

Pond, eyes scanning the room like a hawk, barely registered his brother’s complaint. “Just a quick networking opportunity, Fourth. Besides,” he smirked, “there’s a rather… interesting omega over by the champagne fountain.”

Fourth sighed. “Of course there is.”
True to his word, Pond abandoned Fourth the moment he spotted his prey, a handsome omega with a cascade of dark curls. “Duty calls!” he chirped, disappearing into the throng, leaving Fourth to fend for himself.

“Traitor,” Fourth muttered, heading towards the least crowded corner of the room, which happened to be near the dessert table. He snagged a miniature éclair, hoping the sugar rush would provide some semblance of energy.

That's when he bumped into him.
“Whoa, sorry!” a booming, cheerful voice exclaimed. A hand steadied Fourth, preventing him from face-planting into the chocolate fountain.

Fourth looked up into the face of a man radiating an almost blinding level of energy. He had a wide, disarming smile and eyes that crinkled at the corners. He was tall, broad-shouldered, and exuded an aura of confident alpha charm.

“No worries,” Fourth mumbled, straightening his glasses. “I wasn’t paying attention.”

“Clearly,” the man chuckled, his gaze lingering on Fourth for a moment too long. “I’m Gemini, by the way.” He extended a hand.

Fourth hesitated for a split second before shaking it. “Fourth.”

“Fourth,” Gemini repeated, the name rolling off his tongue smoothly. “That’s… efficient. I like it.”

Fourth raised an eyebrow. “Efficient?”

“Yes! Straight to the point. No frills. Like a well-written legal brief,” Gemini declared, as if this was the highest compliment imaginable.

Fourth couldn’t help the small twitch of his lips. “I suppose it is.”

Over the next hour, Gemini proceeded to charm the socks off Fourth. He told hilarious anecdotes about his work as a pediatric surgeon (including one particularly memorable story about a toddler who swallowed a handful of magnetic alphabet letters), and somehow managed to make even the most mundane topics sound fascinating. Fourth, usually so reserved, found himself laughing, genuinely enjoying the conversation.

As the evening wore on, the atmosphere grew more intimate. They found themselves in a quieter corner, the music softening, the lights dimming. A shared bottle of wine had loosened Fourth’s inhibitions considerably.

“You know,” Gemini said, his voice dropping to a lower register, “for a lawyer, you’re surprisingly fun.”

Fourth scoffed playfully. “And for a surgeon, you’re surprisingly… not covered in blood.”

Gemini laughed, the sound warm and rich. He leaned closer, his scent, a subtle blend of sandalwood and something distinctly alpha, filling Fourth’s senses.

One thing led to another. A lingering touch, a shared look, and then… a kiss. It was passionate, unexpected, and surprisingly thrilling.

The next morning, Fourth woke up in Gemini’s bed, the events of the previous night flashing back in vivid detail. Panic flared in his chest. He was never one for casual encounters. He had let his guard down, allowed himself a moment of vulnerability, and now… well, now he was in a stranger’s bed.
