The rhythmic hum of the baby monitor was the only sound in the house besides the gentle gushing of water coming from the bathroom. Y/N sank onto the edge of the sofa, a sigh of relief escaping his lips.
The twins were finally down for their naps, a victory won after a morning of endless cuddles, peek-a-boo, and a few minor meltdowns. He just needed a moment of peace before Rhea emerged from the shower, ready to tackle the afternoon. His cell phone buzzed on the coffee table, a number he didn't recognize flashing on the screen. Y/N snagged it, answering with a bit of a weary drawl,
Y/N: Yo, who this?
???: That's how you answer the phone.
It was undeniably Roman Reigns.
Y/N: When I don't know who it is, that's how I do it. What do you want?
He knew they were in the same business, but their paths rarely crossed, and they certainly weren't friends. The air crackled with unspoken rivalry both wanted to be the main champion, the face of the company and after Wrestlemania, with four back-to-back Wrestlemania main events, it was undoubtedly Y/N's, something that irked Roman.
Roman: Look, I don't like you, but we both have problems that our special counsels think the other person is better suited to taking off.
An understatement. Y/N knew of Roman's mounting issues. Cesaro was nipping at his heels, a persistent thorn in his side, and then there was his own cousin, Jimmy Uso, back from the sidelines and refusing to acknowledge Roman's authority as the Tribal Chief. It was a messy situation, but compared to Y/N's it was a walk in the park.
He had Samoa Joe, a force of nature, gunning for his title, and Kevin Owens, a vengeful ghost, determined to make him pay for past transgressions. Even his upcoming match against his best friend, Damian Priest, at Wrestlemania Backlash, seemed insignificant by comparison.
Y/N: So what, I take care of Cesaro and Jimmy and then what? You take care of my problems.
Roman: You think this is a charity case? I'll take care of one of your problems and you don't put your hands on my cousin or what happened at Survivor Series will seem like a daydream.
Roman was referring to their infamous match where Y/N had nearly defeated him, a feat that still haunted the Tribal Chief. A slow smirk spread across Y/N's face.
Y/N: We saw what happened last time we fought, and you couldn't keep me down. Do you really think you can stop me when there's no-one to stop the match?
Roman: Why not put your money where your mouth is? Make it to Survivor Series and then we can talk. Take care of Cesaro and I'll take care of your Damian Priest problem.
Y/N leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. He was no fool, and this deal felt... precarious.
Y/N: If you get involved with my family, I'll end your entire Bloodline. Deal with Kevin Owens and then I'll take care of Cesaro next week on your show, hold up your end and I'll hold up mine.
He hung up the call, the dial tone a stark contrast to the tension that still hung in the air. A moment later, Rhea came into the living room, a towel wrapped around her head, her skin glowing.
Rhea: Who was that on the phone?
She asked, her brow furrowed with concern. Y/N simply shook his head, a weary smile gracing his lips.
