I left Edmond Berkeley's office quite annoyed and upset. I shouldn't have been surprised that Rosalind blamed the accident on me but I was. I hated judging people but it was quite evident that Rosalind was a depraved, selfish person. I grew to dislike her more and more.
I lived a simple life and the last thing I imagined was being tangled in a rich, spoilt girls' drama. It baffled me how she went to extents to keep Kai on her arm. All she had to do was trust her man and communicate properly but she opted to whine to his daddy.
I reached the carpark and stared at Kai's sportscar momentarily. A month ago, I never would've imagined he'd allow me to drive his beloved car. Yet here I was, about to drive it without his supervision. It was clear how fussy Kai was with his car when his father was surprised to hear I drove it.
A part of me that was roped into a young adult drama wanted Rosalind to find out that Kai let me drive his car. Another part hoped she never found out because I didn't want any more drama in my life.
I pushed aside the conversation with Edmond Berkeley and looked up a store I visited in London years ago. Thankfully, they were still open and operating. I put in the address on the satnav before I drove off.
By the time I got back to the office, it was time to leave. Kai waited for me in the foyer. I stopped in my tracks and watched him from afar. His legs were crossed at the ankles as he leaned on the front desk and scrolled through his phone.
He still didn't dress appropriately for work. He wore casual jeans with a polo shirt. The necklace he always wore shone against the bright fluorescents. I stared at him for a long moment and appreciated how opposite he was to his father. Perhaps, I was beginning to understand Kai's relationship with him.
Before I was able to take a step forward, Kai looked up and met my gaze. As if I was caught doing something wrong, I quickly looked away. I heard Kai's footsteps and began making my way over.
"When did you get back?"
I finally looked up at him as he stood in front of me. "Now."
Kai's brows slightly furrowed as he appeared to read my face. "Everything alright?"
I nodded and avoided eye contact. "Hmm-mm."
"Co-"
"Are you ready to leave?"
Kai thankfully nodded and opened his palm.
I looked at him confused. "Why would I want to hold your hand?"
Kai blinked twice and looked at me as if I spoke a foreign language.
"Sorry to burst your bubble but I just want my car key back," Kai said casually.
I bit the inside of my cheeks to stop myself from blushing. It might've worked but I still felt like a massive idiot and wanted the ground to swallow me.
"Right," I muttered as I looked into my bag and pretended to search for the key just so I didn't have to look at Kai.
I pulled it out of my bag and placed it on his palm. "Thanks for lending me your car."
"She drives beautifully, eh?" Kai grinned.
"Too fast for my liking."
"Ah," Kai began as we slowly made our way toward the lift. "You don't like it fast, huh?"
"Yeah, speed kind of kills the joy out of the ride," I admitted. "I prefer taking it easy instead of rushing to finish."
"I get that." Kai pressed for the lift. "But you can't deny that the adrenaline speed brings is fun."
