Me here, back bc I pressed on the bruise.
So I saw a comment that said shipping aro/aroace/a-spec characters isn't erasure bc it's only fanon not canon (granted they did say it was annoying to ship a-spec characters) but if someone were to ship a canon gay character in fanon with the opposite gender everyone would call it gay erasure and homophobia. So where's that energy for shipping aro/asepc characters who have stated clearly they don't want to date. (Like I know aro/aces can still date that's why I'm specially speaking about the ones that don't want to date bc that's what the video was about)
The video was like *extremly aroace coded character* "I have zero interest in romance. I don't wanna date anybody. I don't have the energy nor care so I don't see a point on romance. It's a dumb feeling" (side note this is basically my character rue)
*the fandom* "have you tried fucking him"
Like people don't do this with other queer characters without getting hate, so why is it okay to do it to a-specs?
Like I just uggg.
I don't even wanna publish my book rn bc if people romanize Rue, of all characters, I'll either drown in my sorrows and pain or I'll fight and then people will see me as a horrible person an no longer wanna buy my books. Like it's not even a "I don't wanna publish it bc people won't like it" or whatever it's bc I feel it's in my best interest to not publish it if I'm gonna be that upset with ship culture.
But at the same time this is why I need to write these books.
