The next day I am sitting at the kitchen table frosting sugar cookies when I heard someone ringing the doorbell. I laid the cookie on the platter and laid the piping bag on the table I stood up from the table and left the kitchen. I entered the foyer and answered the door Hecate walked inside the house I closed the door behind her and locked it.
"Perse sorry to bother you but can you please come to Hades's castle at the River of Souls?"
"What's wrong?"
"Hades has shut himself inside his office and refuses to come out." Hecate explained.
"It sounds like he's stressing himself out." I said.
I grabbed my leather jacket and put it on I grabbed my purse Hecate, and I left the house I locked the front door behind us. We walked down the porch steps and made our way down the walkway Hecate, and I walked towards her car she unlocked the doors we climbed into the car. She started the engine we put on our seat belts Hecate pulled away from the curb and drove away. When we arrived at the Hades's castle she pulled into the long driveway and parked the car and killed the engine. Hecate and I removed our seat belts and climbed out of the car I grabbed my purse she locked the doors and turned on the alarm. We rushed towards the steps of the castle I pushed the door open Hecate, and I stepped into the foyer of the castle. Hecate and I saw Hermes and another young man walking the downstairs.
"Hermes, I brought Persephone to see if she can talk to Hades." Hecate said.
"I wish my future aunt luck because he doesn't want to talk to anyone and Persephone this is Thanatos god of non-violent death he works with Hades." Hermes replied.
"It's nice to meet you Thanatos."
I head for the stairs and walk upstairs to Hades's office I walked down the corridor to his office and knocked on the door.
"Go away!!"
"Hade, it's Kore."
I turned the doorknob and opened the door I stepped into his office I closed the door behind me and locked it. Hades is sitting at his desk with his head resting on top of it I walked towards his chair and knelt down in front of him.
"My love what's the matter?" I asked concerned.
"I feel overwhelmed judging the dead that arrive here and I can't seem to catch a break." Hades explained.
"You're working yourself too hard I am here to take you home."
"I can't leave it's my job as king of the Underworld to judge every single soul that arrives here."
"I understand that, but I am also looking out for your wellbeing because you need a break." I said gently, climbing to my feet.
Hades lifted his head from his desk and rose from his office chair he grabbed his jacket off the back of the chair and put it on. Hades grabbed his briefcase and coffee mug we headed for the door I unlocked the door and opened it we left his office and headed downstairs. Hecate, Hermes, and Thanatos are standing in the foyer talking they stopped talking when they saw Hades walking down the stairs with me.
"I am taking Hades home because he needs a mental health day."
"I know my best friend is safe with you."
"Aunt Persephone please look after my uncle." Hermes pleaded.
"I will take good care of your uncle I promise." I vowed.
Hades and I left his castle we walked down the stairs and walked towards the car Hades handed me his car keys. I turned off the alarm and unlocked the doors we climbed into the car I put the key into the ignition and started the engine. We put on our seat belts I reached over and turned on the heat I drove down the driveway and drove away. As I was driving, I stopped at a red light I glanced over at Hades he's staring out the passenger side window watching people walking on the sidewalk. When the light turned green, I continued to drive when we arrived home, I pulled the car into the driveway I turned off the heat and killed the engine. We removed our seat belts I grabbed my purse Hades, and I climbed out of the car. I locked the doors and turned on the alarm we walked across the lawn and made our way up the porch steps I opened the storm door and unlocked the front door and opened it we walked inside the house.
"My love go relax in the living room or sitting room."
I closed the front door behind us and locked it we removed our jackets and hung them up I laid Hades's keys on the hallway table and put my purse away. I headed for the kitchen I entered the kitchen and noticed that the cookies and icing were gone and noticed a note lying on the table. I picked up the note and read it.
Dear Persephone,
Hecate asked me to finish decorating the cookies for you.
Love,Megara
P.S. Please take care of HadesI threw the note away and left the kitchen I went searching for Hades I peeked into the living room it was empty I made my way to the sitting room. I walked into the sitting room and saw Hades sitting in his armchair I walked towards him I leaned down and kissed his forehead. He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me onto his lap. I feel bad for Hades stressing himself out at work because he can't seem to catch a break on judging all the souls that come to the Underworld. Later on, that evening I am sitting up in bed reading while Hades is in the bathroom when he came out of the bathroom he climbed into bed and laid his head in my lap. Seconds later I heard his breathing even out and knew he fell asleep when I was finished reading, I placed my bookmark back inside of the book and closed it I laid it on the bedside table. I reached over and turned off the lamp I leaned back against the headboard and lightly stroked his long black hair I drifted off to sleep.
