"Morning, Khirus; I thought you forgot about our little arrangement," Versilia said, swiftly descending the steps to her temporary cottage. I regarded her with a curt nod, finally able to address why I initially summoned her to my territory.
"Must your warriors surround my quarters day and night? I thought I already proved my loyalty."
"They remain close for your safety, Versilia."
"My safety?" She snorted. "I can handle myself."
"Yes. I do not doubt your capabilities, but I must adhere to my protocols."
"Right," she huffed, glancing around. "Where is your pretty little mate? Have you separated from her already?"
"Sayora is in the library with Lord Marcellus."
"Ahh, that man can be quite intimidating when stern; his temperament resembles my grandfather's," she chuckled. "I imagine they would get along."
"Surely, but Lord Marcellus is often more amiable than stern; he can socialize with any being."
"Right. Well, how are you, Mr. Lycan King? Are you well?"
"I am fine, Versilia."
"Did you enjoy your time with Sayora? I heard you beasts like to engage in aggressive mating, so I bet it was challenging for her to endure a man of your impressive stature."
I shook my head. "Let us not delve into private matters."
"Ugh, loosen up, beast. Are you ever not so stoic and impersonal? You know I seek attention and enjoy reveling in the melody of my voice. I've been craving affection and would greatly appreciate a delicious story to immerse myself in."
"Is that why your lips are so loose?" I retorted.
"My lips are always loose," she smiled mischievously.
"Are we done, Versilia? I have indulged in your pleasantries and spent sufficient time engaging in idle chatter. Your vivacious spirit is relatively amusing, but we cannot deviate too far from my approaching demands. Let us discuss the barrier."
She grumbled a bit but simmered. "Fine, I'll save my reckless bantering for someone else," she pouted.
I then gestured to the trees and urged her to continue. "We can converse on our way to the castle."
"Okay, but my words will not be to your liking."
"Proceed, anyway," I advised.
"Look, Khirus, I can create a protective barrier around the castle itself, but extending it to the castle grounds is no simple feat; you must narrow your parameters."
"Versilia, my objective is to shield the castle and its surrounding land to reinforce fortification and restrict unwanted foes from passing. My warriors remain prepared for any unforeseen breach, but I fear the consequences should another attack arise. I have scoured every possible route to the castle, and the odds of intruders stumbling upon the servant dwellings and wreaking havoc is too great."
"What about the curfew?" Versilia inquired.
"The curfew offers the servants a semblance of security, but it does not render them untouchable once daylight fades. Those hours are crucial for enemies who only move about in total darkness."
"I hear you, Khirus; your concern is respectable, but if you recall, my coven is not the strongest. We are spell-casters who rely on enchantments created by more powerful entities to enhance our magic and aid in our endeavors. My powers are limited on their own and can be easily exhausted. What you ask is nearly impossible to produce effectively."
