A sharp gasp left Yeji's lips as she awoke from the terrible nightmare.
Her breathing was heavy and her hands shook while beads of sweat ran down her forehead.
"Y/N?" She said before looking across the bed.
Thankfully, there was enough moonlight peeking through the curtains to allow her to see that you were sound asleep.
She could see your back rising and falling as you slept on your stomach and as much as she wanted to wake you up, she resisted the urge.
It's after two in the morning and you've had a long day so the last thing she wanted to do was disturb your sleep.
However, she was too overwhelmed from the nightmare she had to get back to sleep anytime soon so she got up from the bed and headed to the bathroom before closing the door and sitting on the floor.
Her heart was pounding against her chest while panicked breaths left her lips, making it hard to breathe.
She knew she was crying but she didn't realize how loud her cries were until the bathroom door opened and you peeked inside.
"Yeji? Baby, are you okay?"
She'd usually tell you not to worry and have you go back to bed because she hates the thought of worrying you but that nightmare was so terrible that she could only shake her head and hope that you'd comfort her.
And nothing was going to keep you from doing just that.
"Baby, what happened?"
"I had a bad dream." She sniffled as you wrapped your arms around her to pull her close.
Her tears fell against your skin as she buried her face in your neck, the anxiety rushing through her veins as the terrible dream replayed through her mind again and again.
"I had a dream that I went on tour with the girls and you got in an accident while I was gone. I tried to make it here as fast as I could but you died before I could get to your side. In the nightmare, I didn't even get the chance to tell you how much I love you. You just... died."
"That sounds so scary."
"It was! It was so awful. I tried to get to you, Y/N. I needed to. But you didn't make it and now I'm so scared because I know we have to tour again soon. What if that happens?"
"Yeji, baby, that won't happen." You assured as you brushed a lock of hair behind her ear.
"How can you know that? You can't."
She tightened her grip on you as if she was terrified to let you go.
"I can't lose you. I can't, I just can't."
She'd been having a slight panic attack before you came in but it was returning now, even stronger than before.
She couldn't catch her breath as she trembled in your embrace.
"I don't want to leave you. I can't lose you."
"Baby, you're not going to lose me. I'm perfectly okay."
She just shook her head.
"Breathe, my love. Breathe."
You rubbed her back soothingly and left a few kisses across her skin in hopes that she'd calm down a little.
"It's okay. I'm right here. I'm safe. It was just a bad dream, I've got you."
She closed her eyes as more tears fell down her cheeks.
"Focus on me. I know that you're scared but it was just a dream. I'm here. I'm holing you, I'm breathing, I'm okay and so are you. Everything's okay. You have to breathe. Come on, baby, breathe with me."
She followed your breathing, inhaling when you did just to exhale at the same time as you did.
It took her a few minutes but, eventually, she was able to calm down and catch her breath.
She pulled away as a shaky breath left her lips.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Are you alright?"
"I think so." She said as you dried her eyes and cheeks, wiping away all of her tears.
"Do you want to go back to sleep?"
Her eyes widened from your question and, just kike that, her breathing was heavy and panicky once more.
"It's okay, it's okay. We don't have to, baby. I was just asking. It's alright."
You brushed your fingers along her arms and she closed her eyes to take a couple of deep breaths before she opened them again.
"How about we go for a drive?"
"This late?"
"Yeah, why not? We both love late-night drives and it's what we do when you get anxious."
She nodded before closing her eyes once more as you kissed her forehead.
"Come on, let's go, baby,"
You both got up and grabbed your phones and wallets before heading out to the car in your warm, cozy pajamas and sneakers.
Once in the car, Yeji leaned against the seat while you started the car and began to drive around.
Truthfully, you had no destination in particular in mind but that was part of the fun of late-night drives; it's nice to just drive around in the dark while the rest of the world is asleep.
Yeji turned the radio on and flipped through the stations until calm music played through the speakers, though the volume wasn't too loud.
You rolled the windows down just enough to let a little cool air inside and, occasionally, you turned your head to look at your girlfriend as she gazed out the window to look at everything you drove by.
The time passed by slowly but neither of you felt ready for bed.
You refilled the gas tank, got a couple of drinks, and talked about anything that came to mind until you saw the sun starting to rise.
"Have we been out for hours?" She asked as she saw the yellow-orange sky, a hint of the sun just starting to come up.
"Yeah, we have." You said, smiling a little. "Do you feel any better?"
She sighed before reaching for your free hand to hold it in hers.
"I always get so nervous when I have to leave your side. Even if it's just for a short time. But when the girls and I tour, it's for months at a time, usually, and the thought of leaving you after that dream fills me with dread. It felt so real and I mean it when I say that it felt so real."
"I know it did, my love, but it was only a dream. Just a horrible dream. I promise everything will be okay."
You squeezed her hand and she took a breath before nodding.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"Can we keep driving? Just for a little longer."
"We can drive for as long as you want. We've both got today off and nothing else matters to me other than you being okay. If you want to, we can keep driving for hours."
She cracked a smile and leaned her head against the headrest.
Though her eyes were getting heavy, sleep still sounded dreadful as the anxiety lingered just a little.
She could handle the lack of sleep as long as she's got you and she knows you're safe and sound.
It's all that matters to her.
