Took a Turn for the Worst

Blasting music in my room sounds like the best way to spend a day. If you ever want someone to talk about music with, just talk to me. I will talk to you about music all day. Why must music be so amazing? The kids at my school think I'm weird for loving music so much. Guess what kids. I don't care! Maybe you should start listening to music instead of rumors, idiots.

"Skyler, sweetie, we're leaving to go pick up Emma!" My Mom shouts over my music. Just in case you don't know, Emma is my best friend, well she's my only friend. Emma and I planned to hang out today at my house. I paused my music and walked down the stairs to notice my older brother, Alex, and my little sister, Belle, by the door as well and confusion washed over me.

"Wait. Why are you two going to pick up Emma?" I asked.

"Mom and Dad are going to drop me off at my school because I have to get some things done before the next week," Alex explained.

"Okay, what about you Belle?" I now awaited the answer of my sister.

"Mommy said she can drop me off at Samantha's house." Belle is literally the cutest sister you could ever ask for. Unlike most siblings we hardly ever fight. Alex and I go back and forth sometimes, but not a lot. He can never beat the sass. He likes to dream he can, but he wakes up to my sass slapping him in the face. It's how it works.

"Okay, well you go and have fun playing with Samantha." I said and hugged her.

"Skyler are you sure you don't wanna pick up Emma with us?" My Dad asks me.

"Yes, I'm sure. I have to set everything up in my room." I answered with excitement clear in my voice.

"Okay well, we love you." My parents said at the exact same time and walked out the door, wow weird.

"Love you, too. Okay, you have a good time with Samantha. And get those things done, Alex. Love you both, see you later." I said hugging them both.

"K, love you." What is it with this family saying everything at the same time? I swear they are telepathic. And they walked out the door, locking it.

I run up to my room in lighting speed, to set everything up. Once I'm done setting everything up, I continue blasting my music. After about 30 minutes of belting out Pentatonix, Fall Out Boy, One Direction, Panic! at the Disco, Green Day, 5 Seconds of Summer, and many more other band's lyrics, I hear the noise I've been waiting to hear, the door bell. I immediately pause my music and rush down the stairs to the door. I open the door with a smile evident on my face, but it soon goes away and turns into confusion.

"Are you Skyler Lyric Jacobson?" The officer asks me. What could he possibly want? Not to be rude, but I just want to hang out with my best friend. So I would really appreciate it if he left.

"Yup, that's me!" I say pointing to myself. I notice something in his eyes, but I can't make out what it is.

"Skyler, I'm sorry to say that your family and one other girl, have been in a terrible car accident." Did he just say? No no no he didn't. He did. He just said that my family and Emma were in a car crash. I really doubt that.

"This is a joke. I saw them about 30 minutes ago." I said.

"Skyler, I'm sorry, this is not a joke." The officer kept trying to tell me this wasn't a joke and that my family and friend were in a car crash, but I wouldn't listen I refused to believe everything that came out of his mouth.

"You're lying!" I slammed the door in his face. How could someone think of a prank like this? This is horrible. I decided to call Emma, she would think the same as me. I heard the ring, but it then went straight to voicemail. She always answers her phone. I then tried Alex. His, too, went straight to voicemail. Okay, something isn't right here. I know one person that would put everything aside if her own child called, my mom. I called her cell phone, and she picked up! See that proves them wrong, this is a messed up prank!

"Mom!" I shouted into the phone, but I was met with an unfamiliar voice.

"I'm sorry, but this isn't your Mother, Skyler." It was a voice of a male.

"Then who are you? Why do you have my Mom's phone?" I asked; I demanded answers. This is a prank that has been taken too far.

"This is Officer Perez. Your Mother's phone was found in the rubble of the crash. I'm sorry, did you not know about this? I sent an officer to tell you the news only 10 minutes ago, he should be there by now." Officer Perez now sounded guilty. Wait, so does that mean this isn't a prank?

"No no, um, I'm aware of what happened. Okay, goodbye." I said ending the call. Probably not the nicest thing to do, but right now I don't care. I stood there frozen in my spot. I walked over to the door and opened it, and to my surprise he was still there. He gave me a sad smile.

"Skyler, this is not a prank. No one in their right mind would prank someone like this. There are joke pranks and then there are pranks that go too far, this prank would cross the line and go too far." He explained, wait, I still don't know his name. I guess he's right. Wait! They could still be alive! He must have read my mind.

"I'm sorry, no one survived. The impact of the truck was too strong and they passed away on contact." What he said shattered my heart. Just thinking of the people I love the most having to pass away in such a tragic way, broke my heart. Tears refused to fall from my eyes. One question kept going through my mind...

"What's going to happen to me?"
