I caught up with Fili and helped him out of the rubble, his arm over my shoulders, then we followed Gandalf toward a narrow tunnel where I could see the morning sun at last. Running with Fili, we made it out into daybreak and continued down a steep hill, weaving in between trees and tall brown grass. Glandalf slowed to a stop further down and began counting all as we passed him. "Fili, Kili, that makes twelve. And Bombor, that makes thirteen.  "Where's Bilbo? Where is our Hobbit?" Gandalf asked, looking around at the various members of the company. "Where is our Hobbit?!" He shouted.

"Curse that half-ling! Now he's lost. I thought he was with Dori" Dwalin spat, pointing fingers.

"Don't blame me!" Dori replied in his defense.

"Well where did you last see him?" Gandalf asked Dori, who appeared baffled.

Nori stepped forward a little and looked to the wizard towering over everyone. "I thought I saw him slip away when they first cornered us" He said.

"Then what happened exactly? Tell me!"

"I'll tell you what happened: Master Baggins saw his chance and he took it!" Thorin spoke, his voice darker and more on edge than before. He held his sword in his hand and lifted the blade into the sun. "He has thought of nothing but his soft bed and warm house since first he stepped out his door. We will not be seeing our Hobbit again" He looked to me and Fili, but I looked away.

"What about Anna? Kili, where is your friend?" Gloin asked me from a little behind Gandalf.

"She left" I turned away and stabbed my sword into the soil by my feet, then took a step away, frustration overcoming me almost.

"Left? You mean, she's gone" Ori stepped toward me, his face full of sadness. Dori stepped up behind him and placed a comforting hand on his brother's shoulder.

"Anna went back to Rivendell" I heard Bilbo's voice pipe up behind me, making me turn and look upon him once more.

"Bilbo Baggins" Gandalf laughed. "I have never been so glad to see someone in my life"

I watched the Hobbit with a happy but still melancholy smile as he patted Balin's shoulder. "Bilbo, we were about to give up" I told him.

"How ever did you get past the Gobilns?" Fili asked clearly curious.

"How indeed?" I heard Dwalin murmur in astonishment beside Thorin, folding his arms over his chest.

Bilbo hesitated, slipping his hands into his pockets as we all patiently waited for an answer. Gandalf spoke up instead, a little nervously for some reason. "Well, what does it matter? He's back" He said.

Thorin looked wearily to Gandalf, then at Fili and I, and finally Bilbo. "Matters? I want to know" My uncle demanded, stepping closer. "Why did you come back?"

"Careful Thorin" I heard a light voice speak up and as I looked to the source, I suddenly felt so much happier as I caught sight of Anna standing behind everyone on a rock at the edge of the clearing. "I wouldn't start giving out your orders. Someone would think you were the king" She smiled.

"Anna!" I exclaimed and quickly made my way over to her, holding out my hands to help her down from the Boulder. She threw her arms around my neck as I embrace her and held her close to me for a long moment. We let each other go and I couldn't help but gaze into her beautiful eyes as I felt mine fill with tears. "Are you well?" I questioned quietly, my voice struggling with my sudden change in emotions and my hand on her shoulder.

Anna nodded, then looked at the company. I let her go as she turned her body towards them and addressed them all. "I think now may be a good time to tell you how pregnant I am" She said, gripping my hand nervously.
