"The hoards of hell are upon us! To battle! To battle, sons of Durin!" I heard Lord Dain cry above the noise of the huge worms.

Fili suddenly turned to me, determination in his eyes as the battle began below us. "I'm going over the wall" He said, placing a hand on my shoulder. "Who's coming with me?" He asked, facing the rest of us as many cheered at Fili's idea.

"Stand down" Thorin said, turning his back on the battle

"Are we to do nothing?" Dori asked, stepping forward while Thorin never raised his head again.

"I said stand down!" Thorin cried, making the baby cry also. I looked to Balin who looked shocked.

I turned back to watch the battle of the Dwarf army created a shield wall together, gaining some ground and space and the elves began fighting the Orcs, slashing and slaying Orcs with their blades and arrows. I looked up to a vantage point above the city and noticed a signal that was changing. As it changed, some of the Orcs changed their positions and began marching on the city of Dale. And before long, there were fires raising the stone buildings and screaming emanating from the helpless people. Then I spotted the Elk and Thranduil riding across the bridge into the city, his troops behind him as he joined the fight to save the human people in the city as the battle moved between the walls. It was getting to much for me and I wanted so much to join the fight and kill some Orcs.

I turned my back and kicked at something on the floor in frustration, settling my hands on my hips and Aodhan's cries echoed in my ears. Anna came to stand by my side and took my hand, holding it up to her face and kissing the back of it tenderly. I faced her at last and leaned my head forward just as Dwalin marched down the stairs and away, probably feeling the same as the rest of us. Anna pressed her forehead against mine as we shared a tender moment, and my eyes fell down to her son as he played with our long hair. "He needs to go to sleep" She told me, smiling warmly as our heads separated.

"Okay" I replied, nodding my head at her and forcing a smile.

"Kili" Anna said, grabbing my lost attention as I sighed and our eyes met once again. "He'll come around. Either that or you..." She poked my shoulder. "...will have to knock some sense into him. Don't worry" She said softly, then kissed me and walked away towards the halls of bed chambers and the one we would be sharing during the nights.

I watched her leave with a smile spread across my face, then sat down on the broke steps behind me, hunching over my shoulders and leaning my gloved hands on my knees. I glanced over to Ori who looked utterly lost on his own, they all did and nobody said a word. Suddenly, I heard footsteps and raised my head, seeing Thorin walking through dusty sunlight towards us all. I jumped to my feet and stepped forward, preparing what I was going to say to him in my head. "I will not hide..." I said as my uncle continued to walk toward us, his crown and robes gone from his body. "... behind a wall of stone while others fight our battles FOR US!" I yelled to Thorin, finally being able to release all of the anger that was built up inside me. Thorin remained expressionless as he came closer to me, and I to him. "It is not in my blood, Thorin" I told him through gritted teeth.

"No. It is not" Thorin said, his voice suddenly as soft as it once had been. "We are sons of Durin. And Durin's Folk do not flee from a fight" He whispered, presenting me with a warm smile. I nodded and smiled back as he placed his hand on the back of my head and brought it forward, making our foreheads touch for a single moment until he stepped past me to address everyone else. That was when I noticed Anna standing half in the shadows of a large pillar and watching us. once she saw that I had noticed her, she came out from behind the pillar and approached me as I opened up my arms for her and we embraced. "I do not have the right to ask this of any of you" I heard Thorin say, making Anna and look around at him, holding each other's hands. "Will you follow me... one last time" He asked, as Dwalin, Anna and I stood behind the great Dwarf to show we were ready. Without a word, everyone came to arms, lifting up their swords and axes and standing tall facing the king, and Fili smiled to Thorin, bowing his head in respect for our uncle.

A few minutes later we were standing on either side of the wall we'd built ready to break it down with the huge golden bell. I stood with my back pressed firmly against the side of the wall, taking deep breaths and when I opened my eyes, I noticed Thorin was speaking with Anna near the ropes of the bell. She would be the one to cut the rope and let it swing. I watched as Thorin pointed up to Bombor climbing up the statue of the old King Thror with a huge trumpet was laced across his back, then Thorin pointed to himself, then me, then Fili and back towards the halls of the mountain, probably indicating the gold. And once he was finished, Anna threw her arms around Thorin in a huge hug. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked away for a moment, but suddenly I was thrown against the wall and dropped my sword. Then I realised it was Anna, her arms tightly wrapped around my neck as she held me in the biggest huge I'd ever been given. I wrapped my arms around her, lifted her up so her feet were only just off the ground and I stepped away from the wall a little. I put her down and we released each other. "You come back to me" She said to me, tears filling her eyes. "I cannot fight with you in battle today, because of Aodhan. But we'll be watching" She told me, pointing to a platform beside an exposed hallway.

"I will come back to you, Anna. Don't worry" I replied, placing my hand on her cheek and wiping away a tear. "And when your son is older, we shall tell him of this day and of this King" I told her, indicating Thorin, looking through a hole in the wall with his sword in his hand, ready. I turned back to her and noticed she was still wearing her bracelet with the Arkenstone replica. "For protection. It'll keep you safe when I'm not around, I promise" I said, remembering the day when I gave it to her and we were shooting arrows at Orc's heads.

"You promise?" She said, raising her eyebrow the same way she did once before.

"I promise, Anna" I replied, watching my best friend in the way I used to all those years ago.

Anna nodded and smiled, putting on the bravest face she could. "Now get out there and kick some Orc butt"
