You know how the saying "My boss is a monster." Well in your case that was true. As you look down at the bloody mess that was once you're worst nightmare you let out a sigh filled with relief and pain, you had lost your best friend to the monster lying lifeless at your feet only a few days earlier. Your heart clenches at the memory as you remember the past few days.

~Flashback~

Beep-beep-beep! Your alarm clock rang out forcing you to wake from an amazing dream where you were on some distant island lying on the beach soaking up the sun. "Alright already I'm up!" you yell out as you smack the top of your alarm clock causing a shrill sound to emerge from it. Eyes barely open you turn and give the clock an annoyed glance to see the time was flashing meaning sometime in the night you had lost power. You quickly grab your cell phone and opening it says, "Dammit!" You were an hour late for work; you doubted your boss would let you off the hook again. This was the third time this month that you had lost power and it was starting to drive you crazy. You knew the apartment building was old but you couldn't beat the rent.

Quickly you pull your (H/L) (H/C) hair into a business style bun and made your way to your closet and put on a grey business suit. As you look in the mirror you let out a sigh at the mess that reflected back at you. You could tell how the day was going to go. Grabbing your purse and sliding your feet into a pair of business appropriate heels you quickly make our way out the door and head down the stairs only to see a group of people gathering around your neighbors' apartment door. "What in the?" you say as you momentarily forget that you are late for work and start to peek around people to see what is going on.

"Can you believe that some animal ripped Mr. Jennings throat out?" You hear a lady say as you eavesdrop in on their conversation. "That's strange considering we live three miles from downtown." The other lady replied as she noticed you listening in and gave you a scowl of disapproval.

You smile politely back at her and make your way around the onlookers when you make it to the doors of your apartment building the emts push you out of the way causing you to fall back and pull the sheet off the body they were carrying on the gurney making it visible for everyone to see the mess that used to be their neighbor. As you look up at the body you recognize the destruction that the EMT's were calling an animal attack. Your eyes go wide and forcing yourself to stand you apologize and quickly make your way out the door and down the block to your job. You make it to work only to have the boss call you into the office. You let out a sigh as you set your stuff down at your cubicle and give your Best friend Myka a irritated glance.

She smiles as she say's "Let me guess power went out?" You nod and she takes a drink of her cappuccino from Starbucks. "Don't worry you weren't the only one who showed up late,"

"You were late?" You say a surprised tone filling your sentence.

"My power was out too along with a few other people here. Good thing I have a back up alarm on my cell phone."

"Overachiever," you say under your breath as you make your way to Mr. Dawson's office.

Knocking on the door you slightly open it to see him motion you inside as he was on the phone. You look around and see that there was something different about how his office looked today. Instead of it being the usual tidy office there were things scattered all around. You sit down in the chair opposite him and notice that he looks paler than usual, there were dark circles under his eyes and the faint traces of liquor lingered on his breath. His dark brown hair usually slicked back in the neat business style was lying messily in his face.
