When she walked in World Religions that day my whole world came crashing down.

She wore a big sweater,rather than the form-fitting tank tops I'd grown accustomed to, and she wore heavy amounts of makeup rather than only wearing her red lipstick.

"Ms.Waasi I'd like to see you after class."

She just nodded and buried her head in her book until the bell rang.

"How badly are you hurt?"

"I'm still breathing."

"Honey, why? You could've stayed with me."

"He would have hurt you..."

She looked up at me with those sinful green eyes and I before I knew it, the thing that had been racking my brain since she first told me tumbled from my lips.

"Let's run."

"Avery..."

"He can't get us if we're not in Florida."

"But where would we go?"

"Anywhere."

"Babe, we can't just up and leave, you have a job."

"I can teach anywhere."

She moved from her seat and pulled me into her warm embrace.

"You would give up your life,for me?"

"You are my life."

She kissed me timidly, almost like it was our first time.

"How about this, fall break is in a week, pick a place and we'll go."

"I love you." She said as I ran my fingers down her arms.
