That girl never texted me. But I'm sure her dying was a perfectly good reason. I walked to her house the next morning, to leave the flowers once again, but they didn't end up on the porch, because I'd dropped them and ran to the door. An ambulance was there and they had a body on the stretcher. I remember yelling her name when they finally let me past to see her. She was still in her clothes from yesterday, but this time blood dotted her pink shoes and her white shorts. I remember sitting in the back of the ambulance as I watched the EMTs working on her. Her eyes were wide open and she blinked slowly, as if she were in a trance. "Ashton." She said looking at me, her eyes moving slowly. I touched her face with my hand. "I'm here." I'd said to her. She smiled lazily and said, "It's so beautiful, Ash." That girl closed her eyes and she smiled a little. The steady beeping noise of her heart monitor slowed to one long beep. That day that girl died in front of me, her last words were mine name. That day I died a little.
