"Um, who said you could beat me?" I asked again. Giving her a funny look over my shoulder. Her brown eyes glistened.
"I did. Lyra I swear, sometimes - " I stretched my legs and tied my tennis shoes.
I looked up at Iris to let her finish her sentence. "I swear I could kill you." She sighed. "At least Barry's not here." She chuckled at her own mild thoughts.
I threw my head over my shoulders and bended down to gather my sickly cursed curly hair. Pulling it up in a high ponytail I grabbed a headband and me and Iris walked out of my apartment and onto the still roads. "Why do you say that?" I finally asked her.
She smiled. Gah, why'd she have to be so naturally beautiful. "Because when I'm around the both of you its like a lion fighting a polar bear." I busted out laughing as we walked down the sidewalk of the non-busy neighborhood.
"What - " I tried to get my breathing back to normal as she chuckled. "Where the heck did that come from?" She shrugged and I smiled. "Whooo!" I smiled and breathed out in a yell as I started to jog.
"Hey Lyra, come on now." She jogged to catch up. "You know that's not fair." I grinned and winked at her from my right side. "And you know I don't play fair."
"That is true." She concurred.
Today was Saturday. It was the weekend, and the weekend was honestly my favorite.
I'll tell you why. I get freedom. I get to sleep in. Watch movies. Pig out. The list goes on.
Yup. The weekend was the best. Since today is Saturday though, me and Iris usually go out running. We like to stay in shape, although I bet its hardly paying off on my side considering I eat. Eat. Eat. And eat again.
Deciding to run I picked up my speed and pressed my weight against my toes. Iris called out after me but she picked up speed also and played it fair by running behind me. She knew I needed space when I ran. We both learned that the hard way when I accidentally turned weirdly and the wrong way and Iris lost her balance from my turn and fell down a hill and got bitten up by ants.
Lets just say she didn't leave her room for a week for fear of a hot guy seeing her like that.
I loved it. The feel of the wind against my face. The rush of my heartbeat. This is how I cleared my mind, or I thought something through thoroughly. This is what I did when stress was building up and growing heavy on my shoulders. This is what I loved.
The fall breeze blew faster against me, blowing Iris farther and farther away as I take off faster.
That's when Iris calls out my full name. "Lyra Ray Evans!" Yeah, I know it doesn't sound like the best name. But that's what I was born with, and that's what I was going to keep.
I finally came to a screeching halt as Iris catches up to me. I laughed weirdly, seeming as I was still trying to catch my breath.
"Ready to go back?" I read her mind and she half smiled. "Yeah, I wish I could go to the gym with you like usual but I have to work." She pulled up her beautiful wrist watch.
I'm telling you. Iris West is the most fashionable, most beautiful, sweetest person you'll ever meet. That's why sometimes I have to push down just the tiny bit of jealousy that rides up inside of me sometimes. She gets attention all the time! I'm just kinda - there.
Throwing away my thoughts we turned and jogged back to my apartment so Iris could grab her stuff and head to work.
Getting inside I kicked off my tennis shoes and let them be flung across the room as I walked towards my room to take a shower. "So I'll see you tonight?"
