Soon I Will Be History

Soon I will be history, soon just a memory

For you to remember... or not

Soon I will be in a picture book, hidden under a nook

But for now, let me tell you what I'm about.

I used to play the drums on my highchair

I cried for comfort at midnight

I used to feel the beat of old souls

Much to my audience's delight.

I used to ride my two wheeler bike

I took it everywhere, even out of sight

I played the guitar at all hours

Dissolved my fears until the early light.

Soon I will be history, soon just a memory

For you to recall with compassion

Soon I will fade away and rise to the stars

Will you recall my joy and passion?

Three decades of service, years of labour

I kept delaying our time together to savour

Hell-bent on achieving, running and competing

Until my heart gives out and stops beating.

One favour I ask before my final gasp

Can you do me a solid, one that will last?

Take in my music and lyrics to heart

Take in the beauty and add in your part.

Soon I will be history, soon just a memory

Heaven is one more song away...

Soon I will fly up to the great music library

Listening for your notes, the ones that say

I love you.
