Journalists and the media

risk their lives to bring us news,

reporting from war torn countries,

they are open to abuse.

Some pay the ultimate price,

those responsible never caught,

so this day is for justice

for those just trying to report.

Over the past 10 years more than 700 journalists have lost their lives whilst bringing news to the public, sadly only a tenth of those who committed these crimes have been convicted. The United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution A/RES/68/163 at its 68th session in2013 proclaiming November 2nd as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. This date was chosen because on this day in Mali, in 2013, two French journalists were killed.
