20. Old Friend

Two months of being alone and I'm doing better than I thought. I still have my apartment and I got a promotion at my job. I've heard nothing from Meek but that's ok because it's helping me forget about him. I think about him almost everyday still but when I do, the only thing that plays in my head is what he said to me the last time we spoke.

I was working on making new friends because I don't have many and I desperately need someone to talk to. My closest friend is my co-worked Lindsey. She's been there to comfort me through everything but I'm scared that I'll get to attached to her like I did Meek so I hold back a lot.

I had a day off of work today and I was going to spend it doing something that I'd maybe regret but I had nothing to lose.

Nicki- table for two please!

Waiter- ok, right this way!

I sat down at the table and scrolled through my phone waiting for the other person to get here.

???- hi Nicki

Nicki- oh hi, you finally made it.

???- yeah sorry about being late. It took me a while to get her ready.

Nicki- so this is your baby?

???- yep, Asia Marie.

Nicki- congratulations, she's beautiful!

???- thank you! So first of all I just want you to know that I really appreciate you for giving me another chance after what happened.

Nicki- of course. I'm in a much different place in my life and I believe that everyone deserves a second chance.

???- thank you Nicki. I just want you to know that I'm so so so so sorry about what I did. I don't know what the hell I was thinking and I am truly sorry. Do you forgive me?

Nicki- Draya, I've forgave you already for that.

Draya- I just can't believe I done something like that!  I think it had a lot to do with the mix of drugs and you know, you being with Meek that made me do it.I desperately needed help and I'm so glad that I got it.

Nicki- I am too. You seem very different and happy.

Draya- I am! My daughter and boyfriend had a lot to do with it.

Nicki- I'm happy for you!

Draya- so what do you say? Can we start over? I'd really love for us to be friends again.

Nicki- I think that's a good idea!

Draya- thank you Nicki!

Nicki- it's cool. Now let's order us some food, I'm so hungry.

Draya- that sounds good to me

I continued talking to Draya. I'm glad she decided to reach out to me. Her change seems genuine and I can tell that she's in a much better. If there was hope for someone like Draya to overcome everything she's been through, then there was hope for me.

Draya- so where's Meek?

Nicki- oh I have no idea, we broke up a couple months ago.

Draya- are you serious? He was in love with you

Nicki- yeah

Draya- may I ask what happened?

Nicki- it's a long story and I really don't want to get into it right now.

Draya- oh ok, that's cool. Well my baby is clearly very sleepy so in going to go ahead and go before she makes a scene.

Nicki- ok. I was just about to head out too.

Draya- it was nice seeing you again Nicki

Nicki- you too

Draya- I hope we can do this again sometime

Nicki- you've got my number

We ended everything with a hug and no hard feelings. Doing this made me feel good because Draya used to be one of my close friends. Even though what she did was wrong, I couldn't hate her forever for it. Forgiving her was one weight lifted off of my shoulders. There was one more thing that I needed to do that I hadn't done in years, visit my brothers grave.

I went and picked up some flowers for my brother after I left the restaurant. I was excited to go see him because we had a lot of catching up to do. I pulled up to the graveyard and walk right to where he was. Even tho it had been a few years since I'd been here I still knew exactly where he was. I placed the flowers on his grave and sat down in the grass.

Nicki- "I miss you so much Jelani. I wish you could talk back to me because I could really use some of you advice right now. You probably know that I've been having a bad time with like these past few months but I always think about what you would say. I'm sorry about stripping" I chuckled. " but if I would have never done it I wouldn't still have my apartment and I wouldn't be graduating from college next year. But anyways, I met someone. He name is Meek. We're not together anymore tho. I bet you wouldn't like him anyways" I chuckled. " but then again you never liked any of my boyfriends. I have big things coming and I just wish you could be here to see them. Anyways, I love you and I'll see you soon."

I got up and headed back to my car. I was tired and sad and I just wanted to go home and get in the bed.
