You couldn't sleep, your eyes may have been closed but sleep felt miles and miles away. What was it that was bothering you? Was it anxiety? Jealousy? What could it have been? You knew those feelings well and this just felt... Different... You then heard the sound the wings flying away, you opened your eyes to see that Beatrice was gone! You got up and followed her general direction, soon catching up with her. She was at a house, Adelaide's house! What was Beatrice doing here so late? You heard a branch breaking behind you and you spun around so quickly you could've passed out from it. "Wirt?! I thought you were sleeping!" You whisper-yelled at him. "I heard Beatrice fly away and you running after. I couldn't let you go alone, and I needed to see what Beatrice was doing." He explains. You walk up to the window and peak in, being followed by Wirt and Greg. You watched as Beatrice fell through the chimney and pressed your ear against the glass to hear what they were saying, but the glass was too thick to hear through. You looked through and saw them talking, you could only see Adelaide, she seemed old and frail. You were straining to see what she was saying and you saw her say 'Child Servant' you step back from the glass, startled. Everything made sense now. "What? What is it?" Wirt asks you, obviously startled from your sudden reaction. "Sh-She.." You were paralyzed, you couldn't move. You felt Wirt grab your arm and pull you inside. "Wirt! NO!" You tried to resist but he pulled you inside, for once he looked calm while you looked like you had seen a ghost. Beatrice gasped, "Wirt!" "Close the door child! I'll catch a cold!" Adelaide yells, you gripped Wirt's arm, attempting to pull him out the door but he shuts it. Tears begin to brim your eyes, you did not want to be stuck here for the rest of your life, not as a child servant! "What's going on?" Wirt asks, still oblivious to what was happening. "You..You shouldn't be here." Beatrice says weakly. "Adelaide..?" Wirt asks, still oblivious to what was happening. "Welcome home, Children." Adelaide says, pulling a string and causing us to get caught in a series of tangled ropes. Tears were falling from your eyes at this point as you looked at Beatrice, how could she have done this? You really thought she was your friend. Friends wouldn't matter anymore. Nothing would matter anymore. You were to now live your life, in service of another. "Beatrice... Wh-what?" Wirt says, obviously just as hurt as you were. "I-" She says, unable to find the right words. "I thought we were... Friends..." He says, his eyes brimming with tears as well. "Now they're mine! And once I fill their heads with wool, they'll become just like little sheep and will follow my every command!" Adelaide exclaims. "All this time you've been leading us to this crazy lady?!" Wirt says to Beatrice, now being washed over with anger and bitterness. "I do as he commands, the voice of the night, the BEAST of eternal darkness!" Adelaide says. You saw Beatrice pushing open the window, obviously knowing Adelaide couldn't stand the night air. "What are you doing?!" Adelaide exclaims, dropping the scissors and attempting to run to the window to close it. "The night air is poisonous!" Adelaide says, steam pouring out of her body. She was melting. "Wirt! Greg! (Y/n)! Let's go!" Beatrice yells, turning to see Adelaide melting into nothing. The steam, or smoke rather, was filling the room, you felt Wirt cut the rope from you and helping you up, grabbing your wrist and Greg's just before getting the hell out of there. You looked back and worried for Beatrice, realizing that Beatrice obviously didn't want to let you guys become enslaved to that crazy lady. "Wirt! Where are we going?!" You yell to him. "Anywhere but there." He says coldly, and begins running faster. Once we make it far enough we start walking. Wirt was still bitter about the situation, he was different than you, when he was angry was actually the best time to cheer him up. "Wirt..? What about Beatrice?" Greg asks innocently, ignorantly. "I shouldn't have trusted anyone.." Wirt says coldly. Greg then hears a croak and turns around to see his frog, sitting in the middle of the dirt path. "Benjamin Franklin!" Greg yells happily and runs towards the frog, hugging it. You smiled at Greg then heard Wirt say, "Come on Greg.." You turn to Wirt, surprised at how angry he was about this. You gave him a worried look, and reached your hand out to comfort him, but he turns around quickly and walks off. You and Greg follow, You sadly, and Greg happily.
It soon began to rain, your hair and clothes becoming drenched, you shivered violently worried your body temperature may lower dramatically. Greg, being the sweet little boy he was would offer you a hug once in a while. You told him it made you feel better but in reality it didn't do anything at all. It only made you feel better in an emotional sense. "Wirt.. Where are we even going?" You asked him, shivering violently. "Somewhere to wait out this storm.." He answers plainly. "But shouldn't we wait for Beatrice?" Greg asks. This causes Wirt to stop and look back. "I don't need Beatrice... I'll do this on my own.." Wirt says and continues walking. "Oh that's good! I'm glad you have a plan." Greg says, catching up with Wirt, leaving you to walk behind alone. "So Wirt," "YES Greg?" "So what IS the plan? Because you're not saying much about it. So it's hard for me to-" "Greg I DO have a plan and if you don't trust me you don't have to follow me, ok? You can do anything you want." He says "Anything? That's a lot of power.." Greg mutters, stopping and looking up when we hear the sound of a tree falling. "Wirt! Oh no did I knock down the tree with my powers?" Greg says. "Sorry are you ok?" "Yeah. I-I'm fine.. The tree just came at me from out of nowhere.. Greg look... Axe marks.. Someone chopped it down." Wirt says, placing his hand on the tree. "Indeed. 'Twas I." We hear the woodsman say. You three begin to run, but the woodsman grabs Wirt's arm and begins to talk to him. "Listen! The Beast knows your presence! Ready to claim you! As part of his dark forest! Only if you-" You cut him off by grabbing his arm and pulling him away from Wirt. He then turns around and tries to grab you, but you stumble back falling onto the muddy ground. Your dress was caught on a branch, you pulled and tugged at it, but it only came loose when Wirt grabbed your wrist and pulled you over to where Greg and him were hiding. You three then ran, the woodsman yelling, "Children! Please! Heed my warning! Beware the beast!" You three ran until you jumped over a stone wall, looking back to see if you were followed. You hug Wirt tightly, tears streaming down your face and staining your (s/c) face. He hugs you back and rubs your back gently, calming you down, you then feel Greg's small chubby arms wrap around you as he hugs you from behind. You three stayed in that embrace for a minute before Greg and you let go. Wirt looks over at the abandoned house, "Whoa! It's perfect, come on you two!" Wirt exclaims and runs over to the house, going inside. Wirt finishes lighting the candles, he looks satisfied with himself. Although you were happy he was alright, you couldn't help but feel scared and upset. You were confused. You tried to shake off the feeling as you hear Greg exclaim, "Whoa! We're rich!" "What?" Wirt says and walks over. "Turtle rich!" Greg exclaims. Wirt sighs, "You know.. It's kind of funny finding a basket of turtles in an abandoned home." Wirt says. "Yeah! Haha!" Greg starts laughing. "Not that kind of funny Greg." Wirt says, realizing Greg didn't understand what he was talking about. "Auntie, Auntie I finished th-" A beautiful pale young girl peeks her head through the door as she then gasps when she sees us. "She blushes, "Who are you?" "We're burglars!" Greg exclaims. "N-No we're not! We just needed to get out of the rain!" Wirt exclaims. "We thought this place was abandoned." You say. "So we came here to burgle your turts!" Greg says, laughing childishly. "N-No it's not true!" Wirt says, wrestling with Greg to get him to stop talking. "Ok! I get it!" Greg finally says. "Hah! See?" Wirt exclaims proudly. "I-I believe you but please!" She coughs, "Hide yourselves at once! Auntie Whispers will be home any second!" She exclaims worriedly. We hear someone walk up to the door and fumble with the lock. We hide in the basket of turtles, holding our breaths, not wanting to be found. From the basket we could hear the girl and 'Auntie Whispers' talking. "Welcome home Auntie!" The girl says. "Lorna, my sweet child," She sniffs the air. "Has anyone come here today?" "Nay Auntie." Lorna replies. "Then no one shall be Devoured Alive.. Tonight." Auntie Whispers says to her. "Nay I pray not." Lorna says. "You're a good girl Lorna but you deceive me." Auntie whispers says to her. "I speak the truth auntie I swear-" "Deceive me not child!" She sniffs the air once more. "I can smell them, I can smell the children in this house." "What? Children? I'm like.. In high school." Wirt mumbles. "Yeah well you still stink." Greg says, making you chuckle softly. "Shh!" "You shh!" You listen in on what Lorna and Auntie whispers had to say. "Tell me where they are Lorna. The ringing of the bell commands you." You hear the sound of an elegant bell ringing. "Look... In the basket.." She says. Your heart began to race a million miles an hour. "You shouldn't have come here children... You have entered the house of doom." Lorna gasps. "Oh, Lorna, all this time you meant it was the Turtles that smelled so good. Auntie whispers says as she pops a turtle in her mouth, spitting out the shell. "And are you sure you have no dark secrets to hide?" Auntie Whispers asks. "Nay Auntie, I have none." Lorna says. "Then off to bed go I, and you Lorna, will sort the bones of those who have been devoured here before." Auntie Whispers says. "But I've already finished." Lorna says. "Then clean this floor until it shines. The ringing of the bell commands you." Auntie whispers says, once again ringing that elegant bell. "Yes Auntie Whispers." Lorna says. "You know I do this for you child, I must keep others from driving you to wickedness." Auntie Whispers says. "Do not worry, Auntie whispers, the work shall keep my busy." And once again, she coughs. "Goodnight my dear. And douse that fire, I did not ask you to light it." Then we hear heavy steps walk upstairs, soon followed by snoring. "Come out my turtles, she sleeps." We climb out of the basket and pull the turtles that clung to us off of our clothes. "Are you sure?" Wirt asks. "I-" Lorna then begins coughing. "Are you alright? You've been coughing a lot." Wirt asks her. "It's my illness, it's the whole reason Auntie Whispers is so hard on me." Lorna says. "Gosh! That lady is so bad! You should go see a doctor!" Wirt says to her. "Auntie doesn't allow visitors. She believes that outsiders will lead me to become wicked." "Yeah-!" You pull Wirt aside. "Not to interrupt you insulting this girls' family-" "Oh she's not my real aunt." Lorna says. "Oh, ok well we seriously need to go Wirt." You tell him. "What?! Why?" He ask, not wanting to leave her. This made you angry, jealous. He'd rather stay here with some girl he's known for 5 minutes rather than go home with the girl he's known for 8 years. This hurt you. "Because we need to get home Wirt!" You tell him. "Why would I want to go home?! Here we're praised as heroes and nothing has to be bad. But home all I do is get bullied, you're my only friend, and the girl I like thinks I'm an idiot!" He yells at you. He then turns to Lorna and starts talking to her. "Fine.." You whisper and run out the door, into the rain. You didn't look back, you didn't even think about turning back, you just ran and ran. Tears pouring from your eyes, you couldn't believe him, the one guy you really had thought was sweet beyond belief, who you could always confide in, who you thought actually cared about you chose a girl he met 5 minutes prior over you. You stopped after a while and collapsed on the ground, crying your eyes out until you heard a voice. "Hey.." You looked up to see a pair of glowing eyes coming from the forest. "Come here child..." The voice says, something in you made you get up and walk towards him. "Walk with me. I think, we should make a deal." It says, holding its hand out to you. "What is the deal?" You ask the voice, "You care about your friend and his brother correct?" He asks. No matter how mad you were at Wirt and how selfish he could be, you loved him with all of your heart and if anything happened to him, You would never forgive yourself. "Yes.. Of course.." You tell the voice. "I will make sure they are safe, and let them get home safely if you can do something for me in return." He says. You thought, thought about how much Wirt had hurt you, how he chose someone over you, how many times he saved you. "What do you say?" The voice reaches the hand out further now. You lift your arm up and shake the hand. "The deal has been sealed." And suddenly your eyes felt heavy, very heavy. You couldn't keep them open, you felt drowsy, very drowsy. Eventually you gave in and fell into a deep slumber.
