Today is Wright Brothers day,
as aviators they were the elite,
Orville piloted their first powered plane,
lasting 12 seconds,travelling 120 feet.
A big breakthrough was their invention
of a three-axis control,
enabling pilots to steer aircraft,
keep equilibrium, so achieving their goal.
Wilbur and Orville Wright were born in Ohio, they were both interested in science at a time when man thought that idea of human flight would soon become a reality. They built a plane called the Kitty Hawk and on December 17th 1903 Orville piloted it above a windswept beach in North Carolina, it covered 123 feet and lasted 12 seconds in the air. They made 3 more flights that day but with Wilbur piloting it, the best time achieved was 59 seconds over a distance of 852 feet. The Wright Brothers were the first to invent aircraft controls that enabled fixed wing powered flight possible.
