December 26th we remember St Stephen,

a Christian deacon in Jerusalem,

the Apostles needed help caring for the poor,

seven deacons were appointed to look after them.

God worked many miracles through St. Stephen,

He spoke with such wisdom and grace,

but enemies of the church hated is popularity,

and their wrath poor Stephen had to face.

He had to answer to a great assembly,

but people lying sealed his fate,

he was stoned to death outside Jerusalem,

praying for forgiveness for those filled with hate.

St. Stephen's day is celebrated on December 26th, he was known for services to the poor as well as being the first Christian martyr. The enemies of the church were displeased to see how popular he was becoming. The Apostles decided they needed helpers to look after the poor so they ordained seven deacons, Stephen being one of them. His enemies got others to lie about him so when he had to face the great assembly they refused to listen to what he had to say, they dragged him outside the city of Jerusalem where he was stoned to death. Stephen who was down on his hands and knees, begged God not to punish his haters before his demise.
