Chapter 2

"Hoh?" Laito smirked with a deadly glint in his eyes. "They are from the same species though, correct?"
The question was answered by a simple nod of the head.
"Then what separates them?" Laito leans against the limozine.
"The amount of 'human' we have in us." A clear voice chuckles from above.
Looking up, they all see Iris hovering an amused look on her inhumanly beautiful face. Landing gently on the tip of her toe, she begins to glide over to the group, laughing quietly at all of them. "You all took so long I was beginning to worry. If I'd known you were all so curious about me, I would've answered some of your questions first.
"And you," Iris said, glancing at Heinz, "It's extremely impolite to speak about someone behind their backs." She chided amused, pointing a slender finger to his chest. "You should be setting an example for your kids, not encouraging them to act out." Her eyes sparkling with laughter. "One who works in a school should know this. Even if it is a simple disguise."
Looking at her with a somewhat surprised look – Being the vampire king, not many people would be comfortable speaking to him so freely, he didn't know how to feel. – He gave a fake smile moments later, "I suppose you're right, but you must understand," Heinz moves at an inhumane speed, grips her neck, and squeezes. Not to hurt, just to give an unmistakable warning, "I'm not humane, I couldn't be if I tried." His now gold eyes turning molten.
Iris blinked her eyes, laughter still twinkling within – but it faded a second later, replaced with shock as an arm shot past her head to grip Heinz's. Looking around her, she noted with surprise that the Sakamaki triplets were beside her, all of them in protective stances with confused looks on their faces.
'Why am I doing this?" Ayato thinks, having felt a strange sense of panic when he watched his father wrap his hand around this girl's slender throat a protectiveness he never realized he had, roared to life inside him, and the next thing he knew, he was gripping his father's arm as Laito pulled Iris away from the hand and Kanato moved to stand between her and their father. 'I don't even know her, why am I doing this?'
Similar thoughts were being created by Laito and Kanato, neither making sense of the feelings that had arose so aggressively inside them.
Laito was the first to the recover his sense of reason. "Now, now," He purred, hugging Iris from behind, the action pulling her flush against his body. "Our pretty bird here needs to be handled with care. We don't want her flying away so soon." His eyes blazing into his fathers, alight with his own dark amusement and hatred towards the powerful male in front of him.
And that simply, the bloody tension in the air was gone, replaced with amusement, and a slight annoyance. Heinz looks at Ayato's hand – which was still on his arm – causing Ayato snatch it back as though fire had alit it. Heinz's eyes bore into Iris's, Iris staring coolly back, unblinkingly.
"Enough of this." Heinz said suddenly, and on the heels of that statement, a huge gust of wind appeared out of nowhere....and he was gone.
"He's not a very social man is he, your father." Iris murmured, unsubconsciously relaxing against Laito now that the threat of the vampire king was gone.
"No, our father would rather not be surrounded by the human filth for too long." Reiji answered, obligingly picking up her bag, only to drop it again when it started moving. "What-!?"
"Thank Fucking God That Man Is Gone!" a voice calls from within, "I Thought I Was Gonna Die!"
"You can't die Ilithios, you're already dead." Iris said, exasperated but looking at her bag with amusement. "I told you to stay quiet, that was the condition for allowing you to come with me."
The bag burst open rather dramatically, revealing a ... bunny?
The stuffed rabbit was slightly smaller than Teddy, and completely gray. The bunny had red bead eyes with a pink vest and matching top hat. There was also a little stuffed knife that looked as if it had been sown on. But was probably most surprising was that the stuffed doll was moving. Standing up, the bunny pointed its little knife at Iris, and gave a look that could only be described as haunty. "Shut Up! You bitch, I have a right to talk after what you did, how dare you do this to my beautiful self!" Gesturing to his bunny body.
(Yes, I borrowed a line from maleficent, it fits.)
"Put the knife down Ilithios, you're just wasting your own time." Iris murmured, still relaxed against Laito. Causing him to feel somewhat satisfied, resting his chin on her head. One predator comfortable with another.
Then Kanato started laughing with genuine amusement, and turned to Iris, his eyes wide. "Iris," he said, still giggling, "Iris, what's this?"
"Oh, right," Walking out of Laito's embrace, she walked over to the stuffed rabbit and picked it up by the ears before it could try and stab her with its stuffed knife. "Everyone, meet Ilithios, better known as Jack the Ripper."
"Stop calling me that stupid name!" Ilithios growled, "Bitch, just you wait. I'll get you back, I'll care you up nice and pretty. I'll paint you red, and leave you to die in agony!" He shouted, struggling and slashing at her with his useless knife. "I am not an idiot!"
"Charming, isn't he?" Iris smirked at the brothers.
"Indeed," Reiji said sarcastically, once again grabbing Iris's bag, glanced inside – presumably to make sure nothing else was alive inside – closed it, and handed it to her, staying clear of Ilithios.
"Pay him no mind, the most he can do is talk you to death." Iris reassures Reiji, seeing his avoiding of her bunny.
"Wait," Yui spoke up her eyes wide, "D-did you say Jack the R-Ripper?" fear coming off her almost visibly.
Blinking at her, Iris starts laughing. "You must remember, I am a demon. Playing with the souls of the dead is a hobby by rule. Our favorite little Ilithios here provides me with much entertainment."
"Is that Jack's actual name?" Subaru speaks up, his curiosity his usual instinct to stay quiet.
"No it's not! You little brat, I am a great man! You will treat me with respect!" Ilithios exclaimed, struggling more against the hold that was still on his ears.
"Why you-!" Subaru glared, only to be stopped when Iris placed a hand gently on his cheek, a smile playing on her lips.
The hand on his cheek stopped him short...he didn't even see her move. She went from being three feet away from him to right in front of him, so close that he could feel the heat of her breath against his throat. He held back a shudder of fear as the full force of her hit him like a baseball bat to the back of the head.
'She could kill us all with ease if she wanted to.' He realized with shock. When you're one of the most powerful creatures in the world, it takes you a while to admit when you're weaker then another.
Seeming to sense his realization, Iris smiled darkly. "How stupid would it be, if you were caught arguing with a stuffed bunny?" Iris laughed softly, pressing her fingers gently but firmly against his jaw. "And to answer your question, no that's not this little one's name. Ilithios is what I named him after siring his soul to my little sister's stuffed bunny....It's actually Greek for idiot."
"So," Shu speaks up for the first time, you go around calling a famous serial killer an idiot?"
Iris laughs at Shu's confused expression, "It seems I have to explain. At first, like most people, I thought he was really something. You have to be a certain kind of clever and sinister to kill around twenty-five women, over half never being discovered, and not even get the slightest of a hinting suspicion that it was you." She ran her fingers though her long mass with a sigh. "So I got to talking to him. But the more I talked to him, the more I couldn't help but think 'this guy is an idiot' so I started calling him such."
Iris laughs lightly at the memory. "After a while, it stuck."
           "Why Greek?" Reiji asks conversationally.
"It was my mother's native tongue, I grew up with her speaking it to me. So I understand it, but I can only carry on simple conversations."
"You speak many languages?" Reiji asks, weighing the pros and cons of having this woman as a part of the household. So far the pros outweighed the cons.
"Seven actually, one is currently close to becoming dead, others are the most used languages like Spanish, French, German, and obviously, Japanese and Greek."
              "Useful." Reiji growls throatily.
"And convenient," Iris adds, purposely ignoring the glint in Reiji's eyes. "It's easier to get around when you can talk to people."
"Hey! Bitch! Why aren't we leaving!?" Ilithios speaks up, squirming a bit in Iris's hold.
"That's a good question." Iris chuckles, rearranging her hold on the bunny so he's against her chest. "I know you must be curious as to who and what I am, so I've been accommodating with your questions, but how about we head back to your house. I can answer questions and sow at the same time you know." she points out laughingly.
"Right, let's go." Reiji says as they start loading up the limozine.
"You'll be able to fix Teddy?" Kanato asks timidly as he pins her with his lilac gaze.
Cupping his cheek, Iris smiles that maternal smile again. "I'll make sure he's as good as new. I promise."
"Okay..." Kanato sighs, smiling a bit as she hands him her bag again. "Ne, can I take the bunny with us?"
Laughing, delighted, iris smiles up at him. "Sure, but I'd ignore everything he says, I'm sure you've noticed, but he is rather crude."
"Hey, I'm not merchandise! You jackasses! How dare belittle me in such a matter." Ilithios shouted, jabbing at Kanato with his knife when he went to grab his bunny ears. "I am a great man! I deserve to be treated as such!"
"He's as bad as Ayato," Kanato murmurs, holding teddy in one arm and dragging the bunny with the other as he approaches the car.
"We'll see you back at the house, Pretty Bird." Laito winks at her, as he gets into the car, Kanato getting in behind him.
Watching Iris through the tinted windows, the brothers (and Yui) look on with interest as Iris once again takes off with a strong push of her wings.
"I want to keep her." Kanato says, setting a now strangely quiet Ilithios next to him. Once put down, Ilithios pushes himself up to get in a more comfortable position.
"We'll work on that." Reiji says before turning to speak behind him, "Take us home, Johnson."
"Yes, my young lords." Says the familiar from behind the separation glass.
"I want to taste her, I bet her blood would be sooo satisfying and sickly sweet." Laito moans, a slight blush coloring his cheeks as he closes his eyes. His mind creating images that were better left unmentioned. "Aah, my fangs ache at the thought of it."
"It shouldn't be too hard to cage her, she's already coming into our house, that alone gives us the upper hand." Ayato comments, crossing his arms, curious about the girl who had forced him to respond so quickly against his father. "Not to mention they're six of us, and one of her.
"Will that be okay?" Yui asks quietly, her voice saying she expected to be shot down, "She is a demon, a pureblood according to your father, we don't know what she's capable of, even if you do outnumber her six to one."
"Then we offer to let her stay at our house." Reiji says intellectually, brushing off Yui's concern. "And slowly drug her that way."
Suddenly, Ilithios started cracking up, his laugh that of a truly insane man. "You're morons, all of you! Do you even know who her parents are? Who she is? Silly tricks are going to do nothing, drugs have no effect, chains might as well be grass blades, cages about as sturdy as twigs." He's now laughing with earnest. "A bunch of teenage brats aren't going to be able to do shit against the Daughter of the Demonic Moon."
"Daughter of the Demonic Moon?" Ayato repeated, intrigued.
"Who exactly are her parents then?" Reiji asked, the greed for knowledge a bright spark in his eyes.
Ilithios crossed his arms, smug, "Why, they are the first duke and duchess of the demon world, the first son and daughter-in-law to the Demon K-"
His answer was cut off as a large thump sounded on the roof of the car. A second later, a feminine hand was forcing the sunroof open and a pair of demonic looking eyes were blazing at the stuffed bunny. Iris tiled her head in a way that was nothing human, her face eerily calm, but her eyes were wide. She crawled through the little opening as gracefully as a cat, using her clawed wings as leverage, and fitting her upper body though, she leaned her body toward the now terrified bunny as the car swerved. Her grin was monstrous.
"I-li-thi-os..." Iris hissed, baring her fangs at him. "You have a big mouth," her arm snapped out to grip his ears, causing a whimper from the stuffed animal. "I should hang you over a fire place." She growled throatily, "And leave you there to fry overnight."
He starts struggling in earnest, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to speak out of term! Please have mercy! I'm-"
Iris begins to grin, slow and dangerous. "Aw, Ilithios, you should know by now...begging to a demon," She brushes her lips against his forehead, all the more terrifying for her words, "Will always fall on deaf ears."
With that, she backed out of the sunroof using her wings as arms seeing as they were currently holding Ilithios tight against her chest, choking him (if you can choke a stuffed animal.) and she was out and airborne the next second. Leaving the brothers (and Yui) gaping at the still forced open, but somehow not broken, sunroof.
"Wha-What," Yui stuttered, her eyes refusing to blink, "What just happened."
"How the hell am I supposed to know?" Ayato grumbled, "Stop worrying about that. It's not something you and your little human brain should worry about." He said riotously, crossing his arms.
"Jeez," Yui sighed, "How are you guys not even the least worried? We know next to nothing about her, shouldn't we all be a little more cautious?"
"Hey, Hey, little bitch," Laito smirked, "You shouldn't worry so much, it'll make you ugly. Nfu,"  He appeared in front of her an instant later, running his fingers through her hair, his eyes glowing hungrily. "And that would be such a shame."
A foot comes out of nowhere to slam against his face, causing Laito to crash against the door, and cause the car to swerve again.
Ayato glares at his older brother, "Laito! Don't touch yours truly's prey!" possessiveness a brilliant thing in his eyes.
"Jeez, little brother," Laito drawls, composing himself with a grace only a vampire can have.                      "You shouldn't be so greedy, it's not a good look on you."
          "Why you-!"
"Enough!" Reiji snapped, glaring at two of the triplets and Yui. (Kanato watching on with open amusement.)
"You take such activities to your room, and make sure it is in your room. I will not tolerate you making a fool of our family name with your useless banter."
"I don't think we have to worry about that particular point too much," Shu mumbles, not bothering to open his eyes when he talked.
"What do you mean?" Reiji demanded, looking at his older brother with open scorn.
"Whenever we bicker, or more specifically, when the triplets bicker, that girl only looks amused. I'm only making assumptions based on what I observed," He cracks his eyes open a little, glaring at the triplets, "but I'm willing to bet you three are drawn to her in a way that has little to do with the fact her blood is so pungent."
All three brothers froze and glanced at their eldest brother. Ayato ran a hand through his hair, Kanato buried his face in Teddy, and Laito looked at the floor with thought before he spoke, "When I saw father wrap his hand around her throat, I felt a panic rise within me with such a huge force that I don't even remember moving."
"Yeah, I felt the same." Ayato commented, Kanato's only response was a nod, his face thoughtful.
"I think it's safe to say that girl feels the same." Subaru spoke up. All his brothers looked at him, some surprised he spoke up. He looked at Reiji, "Did you notice how she stepped between you and Kanato when you were scolding? And didn't even notice she was doing so until she was already facing you. Putting your attention on her and off him."
"And it worked," Shu muttered, closing his eyes and crossing his arms once more. "You never finished scolding him, nor did you threaten punishment, you were to focused on the girl...we all were."
Laito started giggling, leaning his head against Yui's leg, he stared at his brothers, smiling like a sated cat. "Well, well," he smirked, "I don't know about you, but I'm excited, she'll make life worth living for a while longer."
Kanato glanced at the bag next to him, her jacket filling the spacious car with her peaceful aroma, not a scent you would expect from a demon. He couldn't help but agree with his older brother.
'This'll be fun.' He smiled softly, 'won't it, Teddy?'

Iris's P.O.V
* * *
'This is NOT going to be fun,' I sneered as I rode the wind currents over the limozine
I was burning with a quiet anger. I – a full blooded demon, a demon with some of the purest blood in my line – had to answer questions presented to me by vampires, Vampires! The leeches that were cast out of the demon realm because their nature was too feral to be tamed, and the blood suckers had no desire to control their lust as they moved from town to town, the streets running with blood.
I growled low in my chest, causing Ilithios to cringe. I'm not gonna lie, I'm half tempted to rip the damn bunny's head off. I should've expected he would start talking the instant he got some attention, he is a male from the 1800's after all. I should've also put in the fact he was surrounded by other guys into the equation.
.....
That thought caused my temper to cool a fraction. This was the first time since his death that my Ilithios had been around males who wouldn't ignore him simply because he was a human soul. The only one who talked to him conversably was myself and my one little brother, but even Vrochi* was getting to the tender teenage age where talking to human souls was a waste of time, and mortals in general were beings that were a lower breed.
I will be the first to admit that I am strange when compared to the other demons. I don't think of humans as lower, just physically weaker. Beings that didn't live very long, but felt much harder. Beings that loved, cried, raged and just 'felt' more in one lifetime than I could I twelve.
Feeling my anger drain away, I rearranged Ilithios as if I was carrying a smaller child, and sighed. "Did you have fun with the six brothers?" I asked softly, feeling him relax a pinch when he sensed I was no longer as angry.
"They were making plans to capture and kill you." He said slowly, as if he found the idea absurd.    "They are vampire brats! And they spoke as though you were the weak one!"
"Their father is KarlHeinz, unofficially known as the Vampire King. They are also very sheltered. They don't know just how weak they are compared to a pureblood demon." I explained, once again reminded as to why I keep this disrespectful murderer around. Because no matter what happened, my Ilithios would never let anyone hurt me. He was the one person I could depend on to warn me if he heard someone threaten my life. As far as he was concerned, my life was his.
"That scary bastard was their father?!" Ilithios exclaimed, looking up at me.
Laughing, I kissed his nose. "Yeah, he was. There is a good chance of those six growing in power as they mature. Their arrogance most likely comes from that knowledge, and the fact that they are practically royalty in the vampire world."
"But they are still so weak when compared to you, are their senses so dulled they can't even tell something that simple? I'm dead! And I can still tell who's stronger then I simply by looking at them." Ilithios sputtered, crossing his arms in an adorable pout.
"Yes, but it's like you said, you're dead, and as thus your body is made of energy, in addition to that your body reacts strongly to surrounding energy. Your ability to sense is almost as strong at mine. With that in mind, the vampires have lived among humans, among beings that are so much weaker them themselves for a long, long time...It's really no large surprise their senses are so dulled in comparison to ours."
"So they're pretty much the weakest members of the demonic horde kingdom?" Ilithios questioned, his curiosity about her ideals and customs never ceasing to amaze her.
"No," I answered, "that would be the phantoms who are the weakest physically." I shuddered internally, thinking of the ghost like bodies with their dead eyes. "Though vampires do have some of the weakest senses among the demonic kind, they are strong, and some of the old ones could essentially prove to be an opponent who isn't a complete waste of time." My mind instantly taking me to KarlHeinz.
"Huh, so they're still pretty low." Ilithios commented,
"Yup, hell a pixie could probably put those six in a trance with minimal effort," I smiled, nuzzling his soft head, "You've got nothing to worry about."
"W-Who the hell said I was worried?!" Ilithios grunted, "I just wanted to make sure no one kills you before I get a chance."
"Yeah, okay." I smiled adoringly at the rude bunny, kissing his fuzzy cheek.

Time Skip

"Hey Ilithios," I said quietly, "Look."
Lifting his head heavily - he had fallen asleep in my safe embrace – he looked in front of him. What he saw had his heart (if he had a physical one) stopped in his chest. The mansion in front of him put the school to shame, the court yards were vast and elegant, the sweep of the columns were strong and regal, beautified with the strength they've obtained with time.
"This is where those brats live?" He gasped, amazed but finally understanding why those brats acted the way they did. "This place is practically a palace! Maybe you should pretend to get caught so we can stay here longer," Ilithios laughed, though not entirely joking.
"You ask the impossible of me, my dear companion." I giggled, knowing my murderer would enjoy exploring the halls. Ilithios had an adventurous spirit. "I can't pretend to be helpless. It's simply not my nature, little friend."
"Yeah I know. You can't expect a lion to act like a bunny." Ilithios chuckled, realizing that the request he'd said on whim was actually quite farfetched.
"No, you can't...but you can expect a predator to hide and lay in wait for the right time to pounce." I grin.
"This is why I haven't run off yet." Ilithios grinned, "You keep things interesting."
"You lie to yourself," My grin turning dangerous. "Not only are you currently trapped in a stuffed bunny, you're physical body is still in my possession. You couldn't run away."
"Humph," Ilithios grumbles, saying something under his breath about letting him dream.
Silence carries out for a few seconds, then Ilithios gasped, "Hey, you know what we should do?"
"No but I have an inkling you're about to tell me." I smiled softly.
"Remember what you did to your mother a few years back? That prank where you pretended to get your wings tangled as you free-fell from the sky?"
"And snapped my wings back out seconds before I hit the ground?" I completed, remembering with laughter how not amused my mother had been. "Of course, what of it?"
"That took a hell of a lot of muscle strength to pull off that maneuver with that much speed and momentum working against you. We, you, should do that prank to them, give them a little tid-bit of your true strength."
"Ilithios, I'm impressed." I smirked, "You should give out ideas more often. It'd be fun to see the looks on their faces when I almost land on them from six hundred feet."
"I keep telling you woman, I'm a great man!" Ilithios smirked smugly.
"Yeah, you keep saying that." I teased, "Oh, they're getting out."
Looking down from where I was hovering, I watched as all six of the Sakamaki brothers and Yui got out of the limozine. They didn't see me because I was too high up, and the underside of my wings is designed for camouflage against the night sky... but it's still amusing to watch him try.
"Ready?" I asked, securing my hold on my rabbit.
"Let's do this!" Ilithios exclaimed, excited.
Maneuvering our bodies so we were facing head first toward the ground, I closed my wings...and we plummeted.
We both screamed as we free-fell. The ground rushing up to meet us at a bone crushing speed. I positioned my wing so they gave off the illusion of being tangled.
The brothers gave off a shout, one even attempted to catch me...awe
The way I fell, I would've crashed into the brothers. But just before I connected with the unyielding ground, I snapped my wings back out and di a straight vertical climb that spoke volumes of my strength. Missing hitting the brothers and Yui by a hairs breath.
A trickle of laughter followed me as I glided to the roof. And sat down on a balcony with Ilithios placed on my lap. The rabbit was still laughing.
"Ohhh." Laito chuckled, "I thought you were really gonna die there for a second, pretty bird."
I giggled and kicked my legs back and forth. "You'll have to forgive me. You were all looking for me so intently I couldn't help myself." I leaned against a pillar next to me, grinning down at the vampires and their human. "It was too easy not to."
"Yes, well, please refrain from doing so in the future." Reiji scolded, pushing his glasses into place.
"I will make an honest attempt." I responded, taking pity on the poor young man.
"I'd rather you promise not to rather than attempt." Reiji growled, skewing me with glowing eyes.
Tilting my head to the side, I start giggling. 'Amusing, these people are too amusing.' Stepping off the balcony, I flared out my wings to glide to them.
I land to standing position before Reiji and looked him in the eye, refusing to back down from this self-righteous leech. "Demons are many things, but we keep our promises." Reiji opened his mouth to speak, but I cut him off with a raise of my hand. "And if we are unable to keep the said promise, we won't make it."
I put my hand down and took a small step back. "While I am here, I will respect the rules of guest hood, but do not try to control me, it will not end well for you, vampire." The last word was spat out.               My eyes going demon.
Reiji glares at me for a few seconds before tsking, and looking away.
Laughing softly, I turn to Kanato. "I'll follow you."
Kanato gave a small smile, deeply pleased at what I'd said, grabbed my hand in a gentle but firm hold, and led me into the house. "Teddy wants to be fixed so he can play, hurry." He orders dryly.
I raise my eyebrow at the order, but let it pass, and put Ilithios on the ground so he could follow on his own.
As soon as I stepped through the corridor, I lost my breath for a few solid seconds. If the outside was beautiful, the inside was radiant. The chandeliers sparkled like stars or diamonds, the carpets lush, the tile smooth. It looked like a place out of a fairy tale...a fairy tale from hell, but still a fairy tale.
"Your home is very nice." I chuckle as I follow Kanato, who was still leading me through halls and rooms, each one primed and warm.
"Of course it is, who do you think we are?" A harsh voice says behind us. Turning my head slightly, I see Ayato staring right at me, following along with the rest of the brothers.
....It seems I won't be sowing in silence.
"I think there's more to all of you then you let on." I say softly, noting with amusement that Yui was being dragged along as well, Ayato's arm currently resting sround her shoulders. 'Poor little thing.' I sigh mentally, a small smile playing on my lips.
"The same could be said about you." Reiji said intellectually. "You give much away at all."
"I'm a demon," I say for what feels like the fifth time. "We tend to not give much away. But I think I've been rather accommodating with your questions."
"Though that may be true," Shu spoke up, "You still aren't saying everything, are you?"
I sigh, exasperated, "You six are tiring, I just met you guys tonight. Why would I spill my guts to six boys I just met and barely know?" I look at them over my shoulder, (still being dragged by Kanato.) and raise my eyebrow at the. "I don't see any of you guys telling me your life story."
There was silence for a few seconds while they thought about what I said...
"She has a point." Subaru said reluctantly.
"But our pretty bird is our guest, we've let her into our home. As a thank you should be "wholly" forthcoming with us." Laito grinned as he reached up to tilt his hat.
I tried to hold back my laughter...Really, I did.
"You know, that may've been true if I'd asked to come over. But I was invited, and given permission. So that logic has no effect in this current situation." I growled, smirking at Laito.
"The point is moot," Ayato spoke up, "If yours truly wants answers, yours truly will get answers."
"You've been getting answers, you self-righteous ass." I narrow my eyes at him...
He was still dragging that poor human with him as we continue to walk to god knows where.
Ayato tches but doesn't say anything.
We continue down the corridor to Ilithios's crackling laughter.

Too be continued...
