Even if your parents don't understand you, it's okay. They may have created you, but they cannot morph you into what they want you to be just because they were not good enough to be that person in their own life. As long as you have friends who are always there for you and truly know who you are and care for you, that is all that you need. I have wasted so much time seeking my parents' approval and I have realized that I was wasting time that I will never get back. We cannot choose who our family is, and that is probably why so many people struggle with connecting with family members. We can, however, choose who our true friends are. They are more important, in my opinion, because even though they haven't been there for us since the beginning, they don't try to force us to be who they want us to be. They accept us, help us through all of our problems, and will most likely be there for us more than anyone else will be.
