~:Chapter fourteen:~

Sneaky as Tonks was she sat down at the Gryffindor table with Remus, Remus gave her a confident smile and she laughed, Lily looked up in disgust at Tonks.

"Why are you here?" Lily snarled

"I am here because I have made up with Remus because he knows the truth, would you like to know the truth or stick with Snivellus greasy the liar" Tonks replied

Lily didn't reply to that she glanced over at the Slytherin table where Severus was smiling at her innocently, Lily then looked at James who was pushing his toast around the plate with his finger.

"This is what happens when you have Severus as a childhood friend..." Lily muttered

"Lily come outside for a bit with me I think we can smooth things out for you" Tonks reasured her getting up at her very words and heading towards the entrance of the great hall

Lily got up and followed, Tonks waited at the entrance steps for her friend to catch up before proceeding. They walked in silence for a bit before Tonks broke the silence

"So er how did you meet Snivellus?" Tonks asked her voice full of curiosity

"Well he's my childhood friend that's why I never call him the names you do, even though he called me a mud-blood I forgive him. He told me a lot about the wizarding world because his mother Eileen Snape was a witch, he used to come find me when my sister Petunia would speak badly of me calling me a freak and things, he used to reassure me" Lily whispered

Tonks didn't know what to say about this, she had always thought badly of Severus because of James's opinions on him like the names he called him, but actually that was how Lily knew so much about the wizarding world. Severus had told her. And when Lily was sad because of her muggle sister. Severus came to comfort her.

"Did you two ever go out?" Tonks asked

"No we never did, we were just best friends, but I think Severus has always wanted to, but then James sort of you know got my attention and I made new friends, then I sort of forgot about Severus..." Lily looked down in shame "I mean I do love James but I still want to speak to Severus as a friend but I can't do that because James would think i'm flirting. But if I went out with Severus James, Sirius, Peter and Remus would turn on me, possibly even you"

"I would never turn against you Lily no matter what because your my friend, friend's stick by each other whatever happens" Tonks paused then thought of something "so it's sort of complicated for you?"

"Yes it is. I've never spoken about this to anyone because it's been private, and if I get caught talking to Sev James would turn against me instantly" Tonks flinched at the nickname Lily had given Severus

Tonks nodded then headed towards the castle with Lily still at her side, she thought about what Lily had said to her, it was complicated, Severus had been left behind while Lily dated his enemy, it was as though there was no hope left for Severus. He was bullied by James's gang daily when really (apart from calling Lily a mud-blood) he had done nothing wrong.

"Tonks what lesson do we have first?" Lily asked all of a sudden distracting Tonks from her train of thought

"We have a free period, but next lesson we have charms, or I have charms i'm not sure what you have"

"Oh OK then..." Lily was about to finish her sentence when she was interrupted by Sirius who was running towards them

"Lily! Tonks! Come to the main courtyard quick!" Sirius smiled trying to catch his breath
