Mira's POV
I zipped down the hallways, eager to find April somewhere. It was hard considering that most of Hogwarts was falling apart. I zig zagged around the rubble and climbed over the top of debris pieces.
"Apriiiil!" I called out, my voice cracking. Tears streamed down my face as I continued to look for my best friend. I made my way back to where everyone had taken refuge. On my way, I saw nearly everyone crowding around the front of the school. I stumbled towards the crowd, pushing my way to the front. I saw all the death eaters, standing and fighting, but no sign of Draco or April. I sniffled quietly before gazing over to Hagrid, who was holding someone in his arms. I stepped closer and my eyes widened. Harry was lying limp in Hagrid's arms.
"Harry..." I whispered. I shook my head, hoping he wasn't the one dead in Hagrid's arms.
Voldemort started to talk, but I didn't want to pay attention - I couldn't. Then someone spoke up.
"I'd like to say something."
I looked up to see Neville hobbling towards the front of the crowd. He was holding the sorting hat in his hand. He started to speak, these brave words in our time of need. I burst into tears, could this be the end?
April's POV
The deatheaters were gathering in a group. I put pressure on my wound and walked slowly with Draco by my side. We pushed through the crowd, trying to get to the front of it all.
I looked at everyone. They were covered in dirt and blood, and most likely tears. I let my free arm dangle beside me. Draco was gripping my hand tightly. I heard someone making a speech, and turned towards them. It Neville, who was standing in front of everyone.
Suddenly, there was a loud thud. It caught almost everyone's attention. Harry was lying on the ground. He got up quickly, holding his wand in front of him. I held in a gasp.
"Draco Malfoy." Voldemort turned around, Harry still threatening him with his wand.
"Before I am forced to silence Harry Potter, I would ask you to...choose a side. One that you will remain loyal too." Voldemort's sickening grin spread across his face, hoping Draco would choose to stay with the death eaters. I moved quickly to stand infront of Draco, staggering forward while clutching my stomach. The pain ceased momentarily.
He stood there, as stiff as a post, undecided. The wind rushed past, making my hair cling to my face. I brushed it away, continuing to look at Draco.
"Well?" Voldemort started to glare at Draco. He stepped forward slightly, his expression wavering.
"Draco," I could hear Narcissa speaking, trying to soothe Draco.
Draco's POV
I stood there, staring straight ahead. April gave me a pleading look, ''Please Draco, don't do this.''
"Draco, come with us, darling."
I turned my head and looked at my mother. Her eyes drooped, and the corners of her mouth were pulled down into a pout.
"Yes, son." My father agreed with mother, and stepped closer to me. He stuck out his hand, beckoning me forward.
The crowd was silent. The whole while I was watching April, who only glared. Her skin was growing paler, and I could see the blood dripping from her side.
I turned back to my parents one last time, ''No,''
I started to inch backwards, ''I won't join you!''
April's POV
Draco rejoined the group of Hogwarts students. I started to drop to my knees, the pain was back. I winced, squeezing my wound.
I could hear Draco's footsteps increase rapidly. In a flash, he was by my side. Someone else's hand was placed on my shoulder. I looked up to see Mira standing beside me. I tried to stiffle a smile, but the pain was too overbearing.
I fell into Draco's arm, black dots started to cover my vision. He was whispering quietly into my ear, sounding panicked, ''Please April, stay with me! I love you!''
A gasp run through the crowd before a hushed silence fell upon them. I thought I heard someone shout; ''Traitor!''
The emptiness took over me, filling me with a sudden cold. I couldn't fight anymore, I couldn't feel Draco's arms around me. I let it take over me, relaxing.
