Clauses consist of different types of phrases: noun, verb, adjctive, adverbial, and prepositional (definitions of all these are in the next section if you want to skip ahead for a quick reference).

Noun phrase is a sentence built around a noun:

'A CHAIR sat in the room's centre.'

Verb phrase is built around a verb:

'You will be GOING to the library.'

Adjective phrase is built around the adjective:

'She's a SLY woman.'

Adverbial phrase is built around the adveb:

'He struggled to drive CONSERVATIVELY.'

Prepositional phrase is built around the preposition:

'I want to go UNDER the tunnel.'
