Legolas was past his majority. He was a fine ellon, and and even finer prince.

As Legolas aged, so did his mother. But she was not immortal, and even with Elvish medicine helping her, the time had come for her to depart from Middle Earth. Legolas had spent days by her side, making sure she saw comfortable and cared for. But the last two days, she hadn't even woken up for more than a few seconds each day, and Thranduil had joined his son in waiting. On this third day of not waking up, Legolas and Thranduil watched as Meran's breathing came to a halt and her face relaxed into eternal sleep.

Tears came to Legolas' eyes. He didn't fight them, and he didn't care who saw them. He sniffed, "Goodbye, Mum."

Arms enveloped him, and Legolas let himself be comforted. It was good to have someone there, someone who had also loved his mother and cared for her. Someone whom he had come to love and trust well.

"I love you, Ada."
