On The Road Again

Light floods my room as the rising sun comes over the hills.

I throw the warm blankets off my body and force my reluctant body to get out of bed.

Rubbing my eyes awake, I walk to the washbowl that rests upon a small table and splash the cold water against my face. Then, I cup some water and pour it into my mouth. After rinsing my mouth of the taste of sleep, I dry my face and turn to my closet.

I walk to it, open the doors, and pull out my clothes. After discarding my night clothes and changing into my undergarments, I put on white leggings, a long sleeved white tunic with slits up to my hip, and a short red and gold vest. I wrap my waist with a red sash then put on my light brown leather boots.

After getting dressed, I brush my hair and weave it into a loose braid. Then, I grab my white cloak and secure it around my neck.

Satisfied with my appearance, I grab my weapons. My sword goes around my hips while my quiver and bow go on my back.

After I finish getting dressed, I leave my room. I need to see if the Dwarves have left already. I suspect they have, I know how uncomfortable they all were with being here.

I walk to where the Dwarves were last night and my suspicions are confirmed. None of them are here. There's not even a trace of them being here.

"My Lady Saphira!" Lindir calls from down the hall, slightly running with something small in his hand. "The Dwarves, they're-"

"Gone, I'm well aware," I interrupt him, a little worried about my companions as well as anxious to know how far they've gone. "How long have you noticed that they were gone?"

"It seems like they left before dawn," Lindir replies before revealing the object he carries in his hand. "I found this at the gate you arrived in."

Lindir offers me a small rolled up scroll of parchment. I take it and unroll it, softly.

Saphira,

I am sorry that I didn't say goodbye in person, but I suppose it's better this way. Although I know that you are capable of taking care of yourself, I don't want you to sacrifice yourself for me again. I couldn't ask you to risk your life for me. Not again. I hope to see you again, perhaps after I reclaim my home. I will think of you always.

Thorin

I shake my head slightly as I finish the brief letter. He should know that I'm still a part of the Company and therefore still part of the quest.

"Tell my uncle that I go with the Dwarves," I command Lindir, my voice still soft.

He nods as I turn towards the balcony that I stood at yesterday with Thorin and run for it. As the railing comes closer, I don't lessen my speed.

Instead, I jump over the railing and feel weightless as I fall through the air.

As I fall, I shift into my dragon form, effortlessly. Power flows throughout my body as I flap my wings and look around the Valley with my Dragon sight.

Finally, I see the auras of the Dwarves and Bilbo and fly towards them. I fly silently behind them and land in a tunnel where I shift back into my normal form.

I use the tunnels and my Dragon sight to see where the Company is, run passed them, and exit the tunnels to be quite a ways in front of them.

Third Person POV

The Dwarves are close to walking out of Rivendell, leaving Saphira behind; or so they thought.

Thorin, who walks at the front of the Company, looks back at the Hidden Valley for a moment, thinking about the love that he was leaving behind.

"Be alert," he shouts. "We are about to step over into the Wild. Dwalin, you know these tunnels, lead on."

Dwalin looks at which tunnel to go through while Thorin looks back to see Rivendell again and think of Saphira.

Bilbo looks back as well, to see Rivendell. And wonders if he will ever see his friend again.

"Master Baggins, I suggest you keep up." Thorin calls at Bilbo after seeing him looking at the Valley as well.

Bilbo looks back and continues walking. Balin walks up to Thorin.

"Thorin, it does not seem wise to leave Saphira behind." he laments to Thorin. "She would want to stay with us and finish the quest with us. You know how important she is to this quest and Company."

"I know, Balin," Thorin sighs, sadly. "That is why I have to leave her behind. I would never forgive myself if harm should befall her. It's for her own protection."

"You do not have to protect me," calls a voice that emerges out from one of the tunnels.

All the Dwarves, along with a Hobbit look to see someone they were all thinking about.

Saphira.

She looks different from earlier when they saw her. Instead of portraying just a beautiful maiden, she looks like a fearsome yet beautiful warrior. They all prefer her like this more than she looked before, especially Thorin.

Saphira stands leaning against the stone wall with her arms crossed. "You didn't think that it was THAT easy to get rid of me, did you?" she questions, a small smirk playing on her lips.

"I hoped it was, I admit," Thorin answers, softly. He still could not get used to her incredible beauty, and if anything, it made him love her more.

"Well, shall we continue on?" she chides, smiling; apparently excited to begin the journey again.

She glances at Thorin for a moment before turning around and leads the Dwarves through a tunnel, leading them out of Rivendell.

Her only hope was that Gandalf would catch up with them soon.
