Catching Up

By the time the girls woke up from their naps, the sun was gone and their rooms were dark. Meg was the first to wander downstairs. Madison was no longer on the couch.

"Must be on her date," Meg amusingly thought to herself.

Outside, music played faintly.

The creaking of the stairs alerted her that Ana must be up as well. Ana flipped on a light switch and made her way to the kitchen. She opened the fridge only to find it was empty.

"Not sure what I thought I was going to find," Ana said. A stomach growl reminded her it had been too many hours since she last ate.

"There's a party going on in the courtyard by the main building. Want to check it out?" Meg asked while taking a seat at the granite top Kitchen Island.

"Think they have food?"

"Well, there is a restaurant."

Ana shrugged before saying, "Sure, let's check it out. Let me call Diego first and let him know so he can join us." Ana went back upstairs to give him a quick call and change into something that looked less like pajamas.

As Meg and Ana approached the party, the music got louder. It was a local Juanes cover band. The girls sat down at a table towards the back of the restaurant where the music wasn't quite as noisy.

Shortly a waiter came by to take their drink orders.

"I'll start off with a gin and tonic," Ana said.

"Can I get a ice tea?" Meg asked.

"You mean a Long Island Ice Tea, right?" Ana inquired.

"No, just a regular." Meg made sure to direct her gaze to the waiter. Her stomach flipped as she worried Ana might catch on.

"Since when do you pass up a Long Island?" Ana questioned.

"Jet lagged. Alcohol doesn't really sit well." Meg answered simply.

"Hm, okay," Ana said, not quite believing her friend.

After they had received their drinks, Diego showed up.

"Hello ladies!" He called to them from across the room. The group exchanged greetings. "How have your first few hours of Medellin been?"

"Good so far. Napped mostly." Meg said.

The group chuckled.

"Diego, what have you found so far about Sarah?"

"The embassy is still quite, but my cousin said that since your arrival the place has been quite busy."

"Really? Why won't they go public? I just don't understand the benefits from them keeping Sarah's kidnapping secret."

"My cousin said the other staffers are starting to ask questions as well."

"I am just hoping that when we get there they will be open with us."

"Well, I've requested access to the embassy for you all tomorrow afternoon."

"Diego, you are asombroso!" Ana said.

"In the meantime, would you ladies dance with me?" Diego asked motioning to the open area in the courtyard where other visitors danced to the music. The girls agreed and the trio danced the night away accompanied by the best of Juanes.

Not far from Meg and Ana, near downtown, Madison continued her date with Ren.
