Day 001 8:34am
----------------------Directly across the table from me, Distance sat and scrolled through Tumblr on his phone. His eyes were perpetually disinterested, but every once in a while, he'd smirk at something he saw.
I have a really rough time figuring out what he's thinking. Like right now, for instance. I wasn't sure if he was indifferent or mad that I woke him up.
He currently wasn't wearing his chest binder, so he appeared to have a more feminine body. His blonde hair was growing a bit long, so I'd have to cut it for him sometime soon. The back of his hair was dyed black to give his hair the appearance of an undercut. He had oddly-coloured violet eyes, a dusting of freckles across his nose and cheeks, two silver earrings in his left ear, and he had a much stockier and more muscular body than I did.
He noticed me watching him with curiosity and muttered,
"Why're you being creepier than normal?"
"Oh, I was just thinking that you need a haircut soon."
I replied with a grin.
Distance rolled his eyes, taking another bite of his toast. I finished off my own cereal as he did so, then placed my dirty dishes in the sink so that we could clean them later on. I then proceeded to tidy up the mess in the kitchen that was left over from breakfast.
"So...I got a job."
I hesitantly said without looking at Distance.
There was a long period of time where the only sound was me twisting the bag of bread closed, then Distance growled,
"I told you you can't. Phone your employer and say things came up and you can't take the job."
From an outsider's viewpoint, Distance probably seems irrational and pissy. Well, I assure you that there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for this. You see, because I'm an Adlet, I can easily be sniffed out by Felynes that happen to come to my workplace. Distance never wanted me to get a job due to the high risks involved with my being out in public, but I really like people. Being around them, I mean. Getting a job was something I've always wanted to do, even if it was only for a little while.
"I dunno why you're worried about it, man. I'm an Adlet. I can't really die, you know."
I laughed as I turned around to grin at him. He didn't even look up at me as he mumbled,
"Yeah you can, you just regenerate incredibly fast. Also, you still feel pain. Torture and experimentation won't be fun for you."
"That's only if I get caught-"
"I said no."
"Please, can I just try it? I'll quit after a month if I start arousing suspicion!"
I protested, provoking a cold glare from Distance.
He stood up abruptly and stalked towards me. He then proceeded to poke the scar on my throat. Without breaking eye contact, he snapped,
"You've already forgotten about this?"
At those words, I remembered the terror when I realized I was being killed, the feeling of the malevolent sspirit releasing me, and the agonizing pain. I shuddered, shaking my head.
