•chapter twelve•

•Serene's Pov•
I sat there squirming, and Ethan seemed to be calming down.  He was looking at me and mouthing to me, 'it's ok' 'you're going to be ok'  But how can he assure that?!  Ethan we are in a room with people that want to hurt us and our relationship.

These thoughts kept on replaying in my head, and as if on que Jake came barging through the door.

"Yo Ethan I got your mess-" He stopped himself. "BRO WTF IS GOING ON HERE."

"Jake get Grayson and get Serene out of here." Ethan said.

Jake went towards Ryan and punched him in the jaw. Ryan let go of my neck to tend to his now bleeding mouth. Grayson came in and picked me up and left the room.  I burst into tears.

"Grayson, go back and get Ethan!"  I yelled hitting his chest.

"Serene!  Ethan can handle himself, I just need to get you to the car."  He yelled back at me.

The pounding noise of the music was piercing my ears.  I started to feel light headed.  I birdied my head into Grayson's neck  and just waited for all of this to stop.

When the sound of the music was becoming unclear, I knew we were at my car.  Grayson opened the door and put me on my comfortable seat.  He stayed next to me and rubbed my back.  Until I heard a voice I need to hear.

"Serene!"  I could tell Ethan was running by the shakiness of his voice. 

I got out of the car, and jumped into his arms and buried my head into his chest.  I've never been so happy to see him in my life. I tried not to, but I started to cry.

•Ethan's Pov•
I remained calm during the whole situation, because what Ryan wanted was for me to get mad.

I held Serene in my arms as I walked back to the car. Raya and Grayson got in the front, and then me, Serene, Jake, and Kayden all got in the back.

We dropped Raya off at her house, and Serene just kept her head on my shoulder playing with my hands.

Ever since we were young, we always had sleepovers, so I texted her mom.

To Mrs. Matthews:
Hey, is it ok if Serene sleeps at our house?

From Mrs. Matthews:
Yeah of course honey, tell her I said goodnight. Bye!

I didn't want Serene to have to put on a normal face for her mom. We pulled up into my driveway, and Serene got out of the car, all of us following her. We walked in, and it 1:30 in the morning.

Jake and Kayden were sleeping in Grayson's room, while me and Serene were sleeping in mine.

Serene got changed into her pajamas that she leaves at my house, and got into my bed. I got in next to her and just held her.

As my eyes were getting tired, I was almost asleep until I could see a flash.

"You dumbass! I told you no flash!" Grayson quietly yelled at Kayden.

"What the fuck bro?" I said sitting up. "You're so lucky you didn't wake Serene up, she would've murdered you guys."

We all started laughing, but still being quiet so that Serene wouldn't hear us. They all left the room, and as if on que I got three notifications.

I looked at the picture that me and Serene were tagged in, and I saw the picture that Kayden just took.  God what idiots.

I looked down at Serene's peaceful but tear-stained face.  I kissed her forehead, and noticed bruises along her neck.  I felt a deep pain.  Ryan made those marks, he held her neck so tight. 

He will regret even getting involved with her in the first place...
