In a mystery/thriller there can be a lot of elements to your story, this could lead to a lot of plot holes however.
A plot hole, for anyone that doesn't know, is where there is a part of the plot that is never fully explained. A way to eliminate the chances of a plot hole, when planning make sure that everything is explained and makes sense and that way when you write you know that your readers won't be left confused.
