Chapter 10
"Harry!"
Claire's voice was shrill and desperate, breathless and aching, and her voice resonated over every wall stretching all around me.
I was running-I didn't know where the fuck to run, since the walls all around me seemed to be made entirely of mirrors. So every way I looked, every angle I turned, I saw myself staring at my reflection.
"Harry!" Her voice was louder this time, past the point of desperation. It was a wail, sounding like a wounded animal.
I didn't know how long I ran, but my legs never grew weary and I never stopped searching. I could hear her yelps and her whimpers, the soft sounds of her struggling.
And it was pissing me off.
Whoever was doing this to her was going to die. I was going to make sure of it.
"Hold on Claire," I murmured to myself, frowning when I nearly ran into my approaching reflection. I cursed loudly, my hand tightening into a fist. "Fuck!" I pulled my fist back and punched right at my reflection, seeing the mirror shatter into a thousand pieces of tiny shards of glass. Some got into my skin, littering near my knuckle, but they didn't hurt at all.
"Where the fuck are you!" I shouted, my voice booming like thunder all around me. I was met with an eerie silence, and for some reason, this made me start running again.
I didn't like the silence.
Silence wasn't good.
"Claire," I muttered to myself as I kept running. I didn't know where the hell I was going-I couldn't hear her voice anymore.
But I had to find her.
"I'm going to find you," I breathed determinedly. "I will find you. Don't you worry-I'll be right there."
"Claire!" I shouted again, coming to a sudden stop. I was hoping she would hear me and send some kind of signal, something to keep me going. I didn't know where she was at all without her voice; I was lost without it.
"Fucking hell," I grumbled, breaking into a long stride. The silence was stretching all around me, echoing almost. I broke out in a blind, wild sprint when the silence simply grew too loud, and I had no idea where the fuck I was going.
So I ran right into one of my reflections, my forehead ramming into the hard mirror and shattering that part of it. I hissed loudly and withdrew my head; for a moment, I couldn't think. My entire mind went completely blank as the pain flared, but I forced it in the back of my mind and focused back on Claire.
"Harry," Her voice was much weaker, quieter, yet she sounded much closer, "I'm over here."
I could feel blood trickling over my forehead but I ignored it easily. All I had to do was ignore the pain-the pain was almost nonexistent to me now. I was just running blindly again, though trying to avoid my own reflection, when everything turned black.
Fuck.
This wasn't helping at all.
Darkness didn't scare me, so I still continued running, though I wasn't too excited about the idea of hitting another mirror. But I remembered Claire's desperate voice and I knew I had to find her-something was happening to her. I gritted my teeth and ignored everything all around me, moving smoothly and naturally in the darkness around me. Shockingly, I didn't run into any mirrors, and when I moved, I felt like I was walking through vacant air. Like I was in an empty room, with cold, almost frozen air only left around.
