My graduation party was in full swing.

The graduation ceremony is tomorrow, but my party is today.

Both sides of my family were here. My mom's side doesn't typically get along well with my father's side.

Years ago, my dad's brother, Howard, cheated on his wife Sheila, with my mom's sister, Frances. Sheila proceeded to divorce Howard and that's the last we ever saw of her.

My mom's sister Frances, however, is still to her husband, Stan. They're super religious and Stan said, "We can work through this difficult time together and with the Lord, our savior, who will forgive us for our sins."

I don't spend a lot of time with either side of the family.

Carter ran up to me with cake smeared across his lips and he wrapped his arms around my waist to hug me.

"Callie, does this mean you're leaving soon?" He asked.

I pulled away from the hug and squatted down to his level, being careful not to expose my butt due to my short dress.

"Well Cart," I began as I took both of his hands and held them in mine. "I will be leaving, but I'll only be 3 hours away,"

We lived in Orlando, but I was going to school at Florida State University in Tallahassee.

Cart sighed. "But that's foreeeeever away, Callie!" He pouted.

I smirked and stretched his arms out as far as they would go.

I gripped his right hand and said, "This is you here in Orlando," I then grabbed his left hand, "and this is me in Tallahassee."

I pushed his hands together pushed his hands to cover the left side of this chest, right over his heart.

"But I'll always be right here, buddy."

Carter hugged me once more and went off to play a game with one of my younger cousins.

I stood and was taken aback when I saw Nick standing behind me, beaming.

"What?" I smirked, popping a mint off of the food table into my mouth.

He smiled and wrapped his arm around my waist and whispered, "You."

I blushed as he continued to whisper in my ear, "You're perfect, C. You're everything to that little boy, and to this big boy," he chuckled, making me giggle as well.

I patted his chest, "Okay big boy. Why don't you go chat up my aunts and uncles while I talk to some friends?"

"Deal." He said, kissing my cheek before he walked off.

I watched him introduce himself to my family and I wondered how I would do without Nick.

We've lived right next to each other for almost a year now, and we've been dating half of that year.

Nick's going to University of South Florida in Tampa; three hours from me.

"There's my beautiful baby girl," a voice said, pulling me away from my thoughts and into a hug.

My dad's grip was tight on me and he kissed my cheek before pulling away from the hug.

For once he smelled like his signature Tommy Hilfigure cologne and not Vodka.

I smiled, "Hey dad. How's the apartment?"

He shrugged and took a few chips out of a nearby bowl. "Drafty. But, I understand your mom needing space and I respect that. In fact," he said, pulling out his phone. He brought up the calendar widget and on it, it showed the words, "SOBER FOR 17 DAYS."

I felt tears prick my eyes, but I blinked them away and pulled my dad back into a hug.

"Love you, daddy."

"Love you, pumpkin."

From the other side of the room, my mom starting tapping a fork against her wine glass, gaining everybody's attention.

"Hello everybody!" She said. Then, she gestured toward me. "We're here to celebrate Callie's graduation day!"

A few whoops and hollers were heard from the crowd of friends, family, and familiar faces.

I walked up to join my mom and she wrapped her arm around my waist.

"I'm so incredibly proud of all of my daughter's accomplishments. It seems like just yesterday she was getting on that bus for her first day of Pre-K. Or scribbling all over our white walls with crayons. Or even when she put her underwear on her head and sang her "Poopy Underpants" song!"

I quickly pulled away and laughed, "Ooookay, that's enough, mom!"

She raised her glass and everybody else joined in on toasting me.

"To Callie!" Mom cried out.

"To Callie!"

I looked around and couldn't clear the lump settled in my throat.

My mom was beaming, she couldn't be prouder.

My dad was thankful, as were we, that he could be here for this day.

Nick was smiling, also proud of all of my accomplishments and my decision to become a Lawyer.

I was proud that he decided he wanted to be an actor.

Crazy, right!?

He never once did the plays in school, but he's so interested and totally amazing at what he wants to do.

I've never felt a day more filled with love and life. I've never felt more loved and cared for.

I can't imagine my life any other way.
