Blue left her house later that day, simply to be away from the tense air there. Her stepmother was nice, if a bit awkward. She just wanted to go somewhere, anywhere, that she could breathe. San Archa's market, a short walk away, was always bustling. She could go and just be another face there. Surely not anyone important. She laughed as she walked by a bakery owned by a baker she knew well. There was a man there, holding up the line. In the middle ot ordering hour, she thought, shaking her head. The baker called her over. The man was trying to order a cake for his daughter's birthday. He couldn't decide on a color. She helped him order. They agreed on a dusty rose pink. The next person in the queue was a nightsap, disguised, of course. He ordered some banana bread. Then he said, "H-hello."
"Hi." Blue responded.
"Will you come, um, sit with me?"
"Okay."
"So. How are you?"
"I'm okay..."
"I know what you are..." she whispered.
He was shocked.
"How? I did everything perfectly!"
"Yes, much too perfect to be human."
"What?"
"Precisely."
"Huh?"
"Exactly."
"Teach me!"
"Okay!"
"Let's start now. What are the appropriate manners in this setting?"
"Well..." she explained.

His name was Jonathan. And yes, he was an evil, devious nightsap. Except he wasn't evil or devious. Just kind and a little too perfect. That night, while she was trying to go to sleep, all she could see was Jonathan. He was laughing, smiling, even just thinking. She felt giddy, excited. She was meeting him in the plaza tomorrow morning!
