This is possibly one of the most cliché scenes I wrote and probably the messiest one so do deal with it as I attempt to find my own style once again. Still, I do hope you enjoy even a tiny bit of this :)

Also, I was listening to Sam Smith's Make it to Me (Stripped- Vevo Lift) while writing this so if you need a soundtrack while reading this then go search it up in Youtube hahaha.

Warning: Aomine might be OOC. Also, a fast paced and crappy try on angst.

Plunge

The sunlight's rays filtered through the thick curtains, lighting up the bedroom's interior and making it easy to notice the clothes messily scattered on the floor and the two bodies on the bed that remained tangled together. This was supposed to be one of your favourite moments, with you lying there with him, calm and comfortable as you watch the drawn shades lightly flutter with the morning breeze. If not for the tension looming in the air.

Today is the day.

You suppressed releasing a sigh as the words repeated in your mind. With your head lying on his naked chest, you could clearly hear the sound of his beating heart while his breath tickles your nape. A hand was placed securely on you bare back, fingers lightly dancing across your skin as he draws small comforting circles over and over, a sweet sensation that sent a shiver down your spine.

Sadly, such things must come to an end.

"When are you leaving?" you questioned, voice barely above a whisper yet the words that left your lips similar to a bomb being dropped. Both his fingers and his breath coming to a halt for a second along with a pregnant pause, his heart seeming to beat faster as the silence continued.

Staring at the wall but looking past it, you waited patiently for his answer. It took a few moment before he released a weary sigh, now running his fingers through your hair as he mumbled, "In a few hours," in a husky voice.

Your heart ached, yet you refused to allow yourself to drown in those feelings. You swallowed the lump forming in your throat and ignored the clenching in your heart. Pushing yourself up not a minute later, you pulled the blanket to your chest as you swing your legs to the edge of the bed. Yet as you did so, a hand reached out to hold your wrist in a firm but gentle manner.

"Come back to bed," you heard him call out, voice strained as you felt his glance at you. You met his eyes, his captivatingly deep blue eyes, that held an emotion the mirrors your own.

But instead of doing as he told, "You should start preparing, you wouldn't want to miss your flight." You displayed a small sad smile, averting your gaze away as you picked up one of the scattered clothes. Pulling over your head the same oversized shirt you wore yesterday and grabbing a new pair of underwear, you got yourself off the bed, heading out of the door.

Preparing a cup of tea for breakfast, you found yourself pouring another cup of coffee for him out of habit. A habit that began the first day you moved in together, and now a habit that you knew would lead to a few wasted coffee before you learn to stop.

You shook your head, getting lost in your own world and didn't notice how long you've been standing by the kitchen counter until you heard the sound of the shower in the bedroom come to a stop. Moments later after you settled yourself down on the sofa with your cup in hand, you were just in time to face Aomine walking out of the bedroom, changed into a new pair of clothes with a bag slung on his shoulder and a luggage on hand.

Your gaze shifting from him to the bag that he carried, watching as he brought his things to the side and noting how it was placed near the main door way. Blinking a few times as you take a sip of your tea, you glance at the ceiling high window, blocking out Aomine's presence while he hesitantly took the seat opposite to yours.

Seeing the cup of coffee placed on the table separating the two of you, he fixated his eyes on you, watching as you take a measured sip from your cup. Following your line of sight, "Do we really need to do this?" Aomine asked.

"We've talked about it already," you told.

"But can't we just give it a try, wait for a few months and see what happens?"

You run a hand through your hair, "I've been in a relationship like that before and we ended up hating each other," you said, biting the inside of your lower lips before turning to look at him, "I don't want us to end up hating each other, Daiki."

And if he saw how your fingers were shaking since the moment he walked in the room, he didn't say a thing and pretended not to see.

Shaking his head, "This job better be worth it," he mumbled with a bitter smile.

"It will be," you assured, setting your cup down, "You made the right choice."

"How would you know?" he inquired, a hint of anger and betrayal underneath the impassive tone.

You offered a small smile, "Because I believe in you." At your words, Aomine met your gaze. "You have the talent, and soon enough, once they see that potential in you, you'll be big in no time," you stated, sounding so casual about the subject that it surprised even you.

He remained staring at you even after you spoke, his blue eyes still reflecting the same emotions from before, emotions that you yourself cannot understand. Was it pain? Pity? Regret? Disappointment? You had no clue. So you turn your gaze away from him and migrated it to your half empty cup.

"Is this really what you want?" Aomine asked you silently.

You took in a deep breath, "It's the practical thing to do," you reasoned, unsure whether it was really to convince him or was it to convince yourself.

"But, is this what you really want?" he repeated with more vigour, "You love me, right? So why aren't you telling me to stay? Why does it need to end up like this?" desperation barely hidden at all.

In a soft but firm tone, you replied, "Because I know how important that opportunity is for you," unable to help yourself from gripping the edge of the sofa as if it's your lifeline. "We both know how much you've been dreaming for it to come, and now that it's here, I can't just beg you to stay knowing it would be out of selfishness for my sake.

"I want you to be happy, Daiki," you declared with a sad smile, glancing up to face him, "And if it means you leaving me behind for your dreams, and me not being part of the equation anymore, then I'll be fine, as long as you are."

You didn't intend for it to happen but at the last part of your sentence, your voice broke. You could feel the tears starting to well up as you let out a shaky breath you didn't notice you were holding in. Yet even with those hints, you refuse to show weakness in front of him. Not now, especially not now. Silence ensued as you received no response from him. Only the ticking of the clock and your even breaths could be heard.

That was until a moment later that the sound of his voice broke the stillness around you with the question that had your heart break a little bit more, "Then what if I can't see myself happy without you?" And oh how fate was against you that the second you opened your lips to reply was the second the doorbell rang.

"Looks like our time is up, the cab must be waiting by the lobby entrance now," Aomine announced in an instant as he stood up, not taking his time as he gathered up his things, hanging his bag to his shoulder with the luggage already in grasp.

With a single goodbye, you could only watch him walk away. Your heart pounded painfully in your chest, eyes stinging as your sight began to blur. You knew it was bound to happen, but damn it hurts. You prepared yourself for this but the pain was still all too much to bear. And with a click on the door affirming that he had left, you didn't have to hold back the tears from streaming down your face.

It was a beautiful day, if not for the untouched cup of coffee laying on the table next to a half empty cup of tea.

End.
