Sheriff Dale Young, 40, the only Jerusalem's Lot police chief since 1973, tapped his I-phone news gently. He waited for the news to load, as he smoked a cigarette.

"Cindy, where's Charles?".
"He's on patrol, Sheriff".
"Where is he?".
"At the Cemetery", she told him.
"OK, if he sees anything funny, tell me".
"Funny".
"Yeah, like if he sees Vampires inside".
"Is that a joke, Sheriff?".
"Shit! Do you know that this town is full of the bloodsuckers?".
"No".
"Then make sure you have garlic, hammers, and stakes".
"I have steak with my husband every Sunday night".
"Not that kind of steak. S-T-A-K-E. Like that Richard Laymon novel".
"Who is Richard Laymon?".
"He was a horror writer".
"Oh", and she shrugged her shoulders, and wondered if the Sheriff was insane.
