  "There's a lullaby, saving us a riot

Giving back the time, stilling my desire

She knows it's mad, the snow's come back

The rose un-burned, the page un-turned

Dust your conscience off, you'd better stop

This stubborn mind, don't feel too kind

I'll find out why it's in her eyes..."

After a long discussion with the Council, everything about our "agreement" was settled. I was relieved. The room was getting uncomfortably stuffy and I hated when too many people were staring at me all at once.

And to make matters worse, Helga just had put the rotten icing on the mold cake.

"Because you have signed over your services to us, I have full jurisdiction over you. So, I demand a apology for your blatant disrespect for my authority."

I stared at her open mouthed as another wave of anger rose in my chest.

There was no way  I was going to apologize to that old hag sitting on her throne of--

"Well?" She demanded impatiently.

"Miss Wolfe, if I may remind you, failure to comply with your superiors will result in harsh punishment... perhaps another night in the Pit would suffice?" Silas threatened, green eyes glowing with a joy that nauseated me.

Seriously, the guy probably had arsenic sauce with his pancakes that morning and liked it.

I swallowed my anger, shuddering at the thought of that wretched Pit. "I'm.." I gritted my teeth, pushing down my hot rage, "...sorry." I choked out

"You're sorry for what, exactly, miss Wolfe?"

I dug my nails into my palms, wanting to scream my lungs bloody. "I'm sorry for... disrespecting you M'am." I mumbled.

Her eyes glinted in triumph. "Hmpf. Well said.  You are dismissed." She sent us away with a careless wave.

My new dog tags jingled around my neck as we exited the stuffy room and entered the cool hall.

I immediately turned to Winston. "What was that all about?" I demanded, seeing that we were alone for a moment.

"What was what about?"

"You stared at that Silas guy like he had the plague, and it seemed like you knew him."

Winston looked away from me. "I have no idea what you are talking about." He said firmly.

"Winston, I know I haven't known you for long, but considering all we've been through..." I faltered, "Well, you're the closest thing to family I've got. And I know when family members are lying to me. So I would appreciate it if you would tell me the truth. "

Uncertainty flashed in his eyes. "Stella..."

"Come on, we gotta go." Captain Warner interrupted as he stormed into the hall.
