Previously on Surviving Fox River:
A crash came from behind us and I turned around to see Charles fall to the floor. I rushed over to him, and held his head up.
"Charles! Charles, talk to me!" I said frantically, trying to get him to open his eyes. They fluttered open and I looked down to see blood soaking his uniform.
"What's wrong with him?" Michael asked and he gasped lightly when he saw Charles' wound. "How did that happen?" I told him about Bellick and he punched the cabinet.
"He's been like this the entire time?" Sucre asked and I nodded, wiping Charles' face.
"I'm not gonna make it." Charles croaked out, his voice barely a whisper.
"No, Charles! You're going to make it. We're almost there, see?" I pointed to the window. "You can make it to see your daughter." I said, feeling my eyes well up with tears. He smiled faintly and took his gold necklace off.
"I've alway thought of you as another daughter." He placed the necklace in my hand and tears slid down my face. He couldn't be dying. I closed my fist around it, and held his hand. "Michael." He moved his fingers, trying to get Michael to come over.
"Yes?" Michael squatted and placed his hand on Westmoreland's arm.
"As you know, I am D.B Cooper. But I have a confession to make." He paused, trying to catch his breath. "It wasn't one million I stole. It was five million." I heard whistles behind me when the others heard his confession. "The money is hidden in the Double K Ranch in Tooele, Utah. Good lu-" I felt the moment he took his last breath.
"No!" I cried, shaking him, trying to get him to wake back up. "You can't die on me, Charles!" I felt arms pick me up and sobs wracked my body. "This is all my fault."
"Melanie, none of this is your fault." Michael said quietly.
"Yes it is! I was going to check on Bellick, but he insisted that he go instead. I shouldn't have listened to him. I should've gone and-"
"Melanie. We need to go. Think about what Charles would have wanted. He wouldn't want you getting caught after all the work you put in trying to plan this escape. We have to go." Michael said and I wiped my tears, understanding. I put the gold necklace on and looked at the charm. It was a lightening bolt with his initials engraved in it. I would keep this forever.
"Okay. Let's go." I said finally, wiping my face again. I looked over at Charles and promised that one day, I would go and see his daughter. T-bag was the next to go over, followed by C-note. Abruzzi turned around to me and Michael.
"Thank you kindly for this opportunity." With that, he climbed up and started crawling towards Lincoln, who was trying to hurry him across.
"I'll go after you." I told Michael.
"You sure? Lincoln would probably want you to-"
"Who cares about what Lincoln wants right now. I just wanna say goodbye to Charles one more time." I told him. He nodded, understanding.
"Alright, Michael! Come on!" I heard Lincoln yell. What Michael didn't know was that while the others were going across, I saw the wire getting looser and looser. It was close to breaking and I didn't want Lincoln to be without his brother if it did break off.
"I'll go last." I heard Manche say behind me. I smiled softly.
"Thank you." When Michael was across, I climbed onto the window sill and caught my breath and I saw how far below the yard was from the wire.
