Friday:
I'm sitting in my room eating ice cream and watching The Fosters. I hear my phone ring and look at the screen. I don't recognize the number, but I answer it anyways."Hello?" I answer.
"Hi, this is Dr. Ramona. Is this Zoey?" The lady asks.
"Yes." I reply.
"Hello, Zoey. I am pleased to inform you that you are not suffering with any major diseases or injuries. However, you do have a UTI and some minor nerve damage, but that can be healed with some antibiotics, which I'm prescribing you now." She tells me and I exhale in relief.
"Thank you so much." I reply.
Saturday:
I take a bus to my therapy appointment since both my parents work and I don't have my license. I haven't talked to Luke much because I've dodged his calls. He doesn't deserve me ignoring him since he did save my life and everything, but I can't risk him finding out about my developing feelings for him. I'm sitting in the waiting room waiting for my name to be called. I look to my left and see Luke taking a seat next to me."What are you doing?" I ask.
"You think I'd miss your therapy appointment?" He smirks and I blush uncontrollably. I don't like the effect this boy has on me. He has complete control over my emotions and my body.
"Zoey Delany?" A receptionist calls to me and Luke and I stand to our feet and follow her. When we get into the office, the therapist asks us to sit.
"You must be Zoey, but I don't know who this is." He turns to Luke.
"I'm Luke. I'm the guy who found her." Luke explains and shakes his hand.
"I'm Dr. Harmon." He says.
"Can you tell me why you need therapy?" Dr. Harmon asks. I shrug.
"I don't, really." I tell him. Luke put his hand on my back to comfort me, sending a shiver down my spine.
"Okay, I'll rephrase. Can you tell me why you don't need therapy?" He asks.
"Because nothing you tell me is going to change what happened to me." I explain. He leans forward in his office chair and set his elbows on his desk.
"I'm not here to change what happened. I'm here to help you learn how to cope with what has happened." He reiterates. I stay silent.
"Do you want to tell me some of what happened to you?" He asks. I shake my head.
"Zoey, this is a safe place. You don't need to be afraid." He assures me in a calm voice.
"I just don't want to, okay?" I groan.
"Alright. You know what I think would help you?" He asks. I bounce my leg up and down in anxiety as I wait for him to continue.
"I think you need to try and do things normal girls your age do. Get your license, so you can drive like everyone else does. I assume you didn't graduate because you've been gone for all of year 12, so enroll in some classes so that you can get your diploma. Get a job, if you want. Hang out with friends, go to parties. Just be a normal 18-year-old girl. That should definitely help until you're ready to talk about what happened." He tells me.
"Fine, I guess." I sigh.
"Zo, he has a point." Luke tells me.
"Yeah, sure. I'll work on it." I reply.
...
"Do you want me to take you to enroll in some classes?" Luke asks as we walk back to his car. I'm glad that I don't have to take the bus home. I don't like being alone in public. I always wonder if Mark is going to find me again like he did last time.
