Despite being in only a handful of scenes before dying, Biggs Darklighter is a fairly popular character among Star Wars fans. His death is very quick, but also significant, because when he dies, all of Luke's ties to his old life on Tattooine have officially been severed. I mean, Biggs was Luke's childhood friend. And remember, in the scene before the attack on the Death Star, Luke and Biggs both promised to trade stories when they got back. Sadly, that never happened.
