Chapter Twelve
(Ross' POV)
I was trying not to cry. I really was! But I couldn't help it. Tonight hadn't been the best night.
Max should be mad. I ruined everything.
I played with my tie, loosening it and then tightening it again.
"You alright, Ross?" Max asked.
"We can go straight home if you want."
I thought for a moment.
"N-no. It's fine. I-I mean, uh, I'm fine! I promise!" Max gave me a look of concern, but turned back to the road. I let out a sigh, but it was quiet. Hopefully Max hadn't heard it.
I didn't want this night to be ruined for us anymore than it already had been.
I turned towards the window. The moon was almost halfway through the sky. Maybe an hour or two before it turned 12:00.
I realized we were approaching the ice cream parlor.
When Max parked the car, I unbuckled my seatbelt and swiftly got out.
I looked around. The parking lot was different at night. Not many people were there.
As we approached the shop, I had to blink twice before I could read the sign. It was a traditional one too, no flashy lights or anything.
'Butterscotch Ice Cream' The sign read. Max and I'd been here a few times before, but we never come here often.
I pushed the door open and into the parlor. The person at the counter looked tired and was probably about to close up the shop, but waved at us nonetheless.
"Y-youre very lucky I was working the late shift tonight, fellas. Any other employee would've told you to scat. B-but wh-what can I get you, anyways?" He asked kindly, his short blonde hair bouncing slightly as he talked. He adjusted the white bow tie around his neck, as well as his chalky mint shirt.
"I'll have a strawberry swirl in a cone, please. No toppings." Max asked politely. I reached for his hand, but he pulled away as he was trying to get his wallet out of his pocket.
"A-and for you, good laddy?" The employee asked.
"Just a small cone of vanilla with fudge." I mumbled. The worker gave Max his ice cream and got to work on creating mine.
"I'm sorry I ruined everything." I muttered.
"Ross. Hush up. You didn't ruin anything. I promise." He gave me a light kiss on the cheek, causing me to blush a little.
"A-and anything else, good sirs?" The employee kindly handed over my cone of ice cream. I licked the frozen treat. The cold instantly met my tongue.
"No that'll be all. Thank you Mr.-"
"Call me Leopold!" The guy behind the counter chuckled.
"Thank you 'Leopold'. Max handed him a twenty dollar bill.
I wondered away from Max's side, heading towards one of the back tables. I sat down in one of the red chairs, casually still licking my ice cream. Max followed a few moments later, sitting across from me.
"I promise I'll make this up to you. Really! I will!"
"You don't need to Ross." Max was stubborn. I had to do something for him!
I'll have to think of something...
I took another lick from my cone.
"It's alright. I haven't had ice cream in aehule anyways. About time I treated myself to some."
I loved it when Max tried to make a situation seem like it was meant to happen. It made me smile.
We sat there for some time, chatting and licking our ice creams. We may have even exchanged a kiss or two.
"Oh... hamburgers. I'm sorry fellas. I gotta close up shop in a few minutes." Leopold told us. Max gently pushed himself out of his chair and threw away the remnants of his cone. I held out his hand and I grabbed it. He pulled me to my feet. I quickly gulped down what I had left of my frozen dessert, and we walked out the door side by side, but not before Max thanked Leopold once again.
We walked to the car, hands grasped together.
We both got in on out respective sides. I buckled my seatbelt, and Max fumbled with his for a good moment before he finally got it to lock.
I waved a farewell to Leopold as Max drove away from the shop. He waved back, but I barely saw it.
I took off my suit jacket and threw it in the backseat. Fancy clothes weren't really my sort of thing.
Even though there were laws about not sitting properly in the front seat, they didn't matter to me at the moment. I slouched down and closed my eyes, resting my head on my arms, which were leaned against the dashboard.
I yawned. I was tired.
I felt the car pull up to what I assumed was a red light. I heard Max moving beside me, and I heard him take off his seatbelt and do something, but I wasn't sure what. I felt something soft being placed on my shoulders.
One of Max's jackets...
I breathed in the scent around me. It smelled like Max. Like home. Like the person I loved more than anything.
"I'm sorry I ruined our date." I mumbled tiredly, my eyes still closed.
"Don't be. You didn't ruin anything." I heard Max buckling his seat belt back into place, and he waited a few seconds before pushing on the brakes. A silence swept through the usually loud car.
It was quiet. Not the awkward silence type of quite, but the nice and peaceful type of quite. The type of quite someone could fall asleep to. The kind of quite that came with respect and care. The kind of quite that came with love.
I smiled.
"I love you."
"Love you too, Ross."
After that, all I could remember was falling asleep.

Nsxncnxjxjx aCK. My heart. I think I might of changed my writing style a little??
Anywho, I'm terribly sorry, but I'm terrible and procrastinate a lot. That's a good excuse as to why this chapter is out really late.
Also it's not particularly my fault. It was South Park's fault, okay!
Anyways, how many of you guys would wanna see something to do with South Park once I finish this story?? Because omfg. I don't know how I hadn't learned about how good this show was earlier.
