CHAPTER 2: SILENT REVERIE
"Ma'am, Sir Elijah is in line 2." I heard my secretary said as I answered the intercom.
"Okay. I'll take the call. Thanks." I answered. I count one to ten at huminga muna ako ng malalim before I pressed the button.
"Hi Elijah! Bakit ka napatawag?" Masayang bungad ko rito.
"Namiss kasi kita eh." I heard him laugh after he said that. Napangiti naman ako.
'namiss din kitang kumag ka kahit kagabi lang tayo huling nagkita.' I wanted to tell him that but I immediately restrained my self from doing so.
"May bago ba doon Mr. Montefalcon? You always miss me kahit ilang minuto pa lang tayong hindi nagkikita." I confidently said to him with goofy grin in my face. If someone sees me right now, they may think I’m lunatic for ridiculously beaming.
"How conceited you are, my lady." he chuckled.
"Why? I'm just telling you the truth and you know that very well." Sabi ko at tumawa ako ng malakas. Seriously, I’m having fun in this conversation with Elijah. "Anyway, why did you call?"
"You don't remember, do you?" narinig ko pa siyang napapalatak sa kabilang linya.
"Remember what?" I asked creasing my eyebrows.
"Oh, Heather, if you must know, its lunch time already and I guess, you haven't eaten anything. Am I right?" Sagot nito.
Natigilan ako sa sinabi niya at napatingin ako bigla sa wall clock ng opisina ko. Nagulat ako ng makita kong pasado ala-una na pala ng hapon. Natampal ko ang noo ko dahil doon. I’ve been busy this morning checking and reviewing documents passed by our sales executives kaya halos hindi ko napansin yung oras.
"I guess, I'm right. Di ka na sumagot eh. I'll pick you up. Let's have lunch. My treat." Para akong natauhan ng marinig ko ulit magsalita si Elijah sa kabilang linya. Gusto ko sanang pumayag kaso marami pa akong kailangang tapusin kaya naman wala akong magagawa kundi ang hindian ito.
"Marami pa kasi akong gagawin, Elijah. Marami akong urgent na documents na kailangang i-release today. You go ahead. I'll take my lunch later—“
"No buts Heather. What did I tell you? Di ba sabi ko wag kang magpapalipas ng gutom? Alam mo namang ayaw kong nagkakasakit ka." He said cutting me off. Di ko na napigilang mapangiti ulit. This is one of many things I love about Elijah. He cares for me so much.
"Pero—“
"I already said no buts okay? This is a command from your superior. I'll fire you for insubordination if you won't obey me." I can almost see him grinning while saying that. Napailing na lang ako. Now, I really don’t have a choice but to agree with him. I lift my left arm and throw it in the air as if I’m surrendering.
"If you say so, BOSS." I said and hooted.
